Joined the party far too late. I'm 28, I grew up in some secluded area in which arts and theatre are looked down upon - the theatre itself didn't offer fun projects, so that's on me to not participate. But my parents always pushed me into the framing I came from or they wanted me in, so I never stepped out. I've dreamt about this craft since very early days. Now I find myself again in the situation that the local theatre is more drawn to musical styles of projects, where I'd rather enjoy actual play. But now, things are different. I feel no shame anymore, no shackles that tear me down. I'm practicing since a week now, daily. Nothing else I think about but acting, nothing else but learning and practicing. Today, I practice 1-2 monologues, record them, review them, relentlessly. I will push forward until my work bears fruits. I have never felt more joy than ever since I started this practicing. My heart yearns for this and I savor every second. Doubt crawls into my head, very regularly. Comparison to famous, established actors, voice actors and the like. But forgiveness and patience, trust in your methods might save you from this predicament - the predicament I suffer. Another challenge I face, my voice does not sound like a real person. I sound neither male nor female in my ears and really don't know how to fix it. In my ears, it's the voice profile itself, that probably cannot really change, though surely, the amount of different usages of my voice are as infinite as anybody else's. Thank you so much for this very valuable resource. I didn't think of Monologues and Neutral Lines when it comes to my practice routine, so you had a huge impact on that.

Hey! So happy to hear that acting brings you a lot of joy. Comparison is normal, but if you know you are doing the best you can do, and having a good time, that's really all that matters. As far as your voice, that can definitely be a cool things that makes you stand out from the rest. Good luck and thank you so much for watching!

My thing is that I wanna be an actor and I plan to marry the girl I’m with one day, but when it would come to a film that would have a kissing scene, I would rather have my girlfriend’s opinion on that part of the script and tell her I wouldn’t do it if it would make her uncomfortable before I would make a call to accept or decline the role.

I have 2 agents but they primarily submit me through Casting Networks and Actors Access and barely anything that I fit the criteria for is on those websites. I am 16 and I have been checking multiple times a day on countless websites and there just aren't any roles for somebody my age. I live in Florida and most roles are for disney world where they primarily search for full families or people from different backgrounds. I feel like I have a chance if I could actually find stuff to submit to because I could easily play a younger role which is usually good and I have been acting for a while. Sorry for ranting but do you have any tips haha
@BelgicaPaola
@BelgicaPaola 9 күн бұрын
Hey! First, make sure your parents are involved every step of the way! I started acting in paid roles after turning 18 so I am not sure what advice to give you other than wait until you are 18 to work paid jobs that you submit to because I also almost never see jobs for under 18 on casting sites. If you have an agent, ask your parent to set up a meeting and see what you are missing. Maybe you need a reel? Different headshots? The market you are in is simply smaller so there are less roles? Hope this helps! But for sure you can just concentrate on school for now and once you are 18, can start working more.

Should i thank them for watching at the end of my self tape?
@BelgicaPaola
@BelgicaPaola 17 күн бұрын
I would not. I personally see that as a pretty old school tradition for in person theatre auditions. If you want, you can leave a thank you note in the "notes" section of the casting website or if you are sending the audition via email, you can leave a thank you at the end. 😊 If I have a relationship with casting, I usually send them a thank you email after being cast in something or at the end of the year. But it really depends on your relationship with them and what's appropriate in your market.

There are a ton of ways to get actual people, and personally, I think that's much better. I just did this because it was December and a lot of people had stuff going on. But there's Actor Trade (free and I made a video on it). There's We Audition (paid, but you can also get paid for reading for others). And lots of Facebook and discord groups 😊 people are on all of these from all around the world so you can find readers at all times and different languages if needed. It takes some work to get used to reaching out to people, but after a while, you start getting audition buddies who you read for and who read for you! Hope this helps!

It's different every time. For SAg-AFTRA productions they at least have folding chairs to sit on and at least a roof over our heads. The temperature can vary, so I'd suggest bringing a coat or being mindful of the time of year you accept a background role as sometimes the scenes are outside and the "roof" is a canopy so you're still exposed to the weather. ☺️ Hope this helps!

I think one of the biggest things that was hammered into me from such a young age was that if you have a back up plan you don’t want this badly enough. If you take ANY time away from this career you don’t want it badly enough. But now I’m out on my own after a BFA in acting working three random customer service jobs just to survive. This shit is not cute and I really wish I had taken the time to think about other skills or ways I was going to make a living pursuing this, as the harsh reality is less than 1% of actors make 50k or more a year. And with the rising cost of living and things getting more and more expensive every single year while wages continue to stagnate, I’ve just had a really harsh reality check. The stress of not knowing when I’m working or how much I’m going to make every month has really taken a toll on my love and passion for this career, and working multiple part time jobs means you have very little control over how much you work, as it’s dependent on the whims of the business. TLDR; money is important. It doesn’t make you any less of an artist.
@BelgicaPaola

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 🥳 Yesssss! Thank you for that comment. I think there are a LOT of narratives we are lead to really feel are real. The truth is that most actors are not only actors, but have to make most of their income outside of acting. I recently posted a video (it's my office makeover video) where I talk about the fact that I'm working on some other businesses in order to make some money. I am one of the lucky ones that happens to be married to someone with a more traditional job so that's how I'm able to have health insurance but I know that my retirement is WAY lower than it needs to be if I can to take it easy after I'm 65. 🥲 I wish you so much success, Isabel and I hope you find a great way to make great income that can support your pursuit in acting. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I'd love to share more thoughts on this in a future vlog.
