Thanks for your memories. I can still remember for this time. Wavell BKS, Smuts BKS directly next to Wavell, Alexander BKS and the Montgomery BKS. The Montgomery and the Royal Air Force Gatow is used now by German Forces.(Bundeswehr). The Britannia Center at Smuts area had demolished and there's now a big german supermarket. Some peaces from the old Headquarter nearly Olympic Stadium is now used from our football club Hertha Berlin. And last but not least, the fighting city in Ruhleben is the training ground from the Berlin Police and their special squads.

Very well presented, I can understand how you felt about this place and it's reflected by everybody that experienced life , by all the various British Forces that served in Germany, in that vast spaced out inventory of bases.. Great soundtrack and memory jogging footage. You should be proud!

Ich wurde 1957 in Spandau geboren. Vor meiner Einschulung wurden Spandauer Kinder zu Weihnachten von den Soldaten in die Brookskaserne eingeladen. Ich bekam meinen die ersten Legobasteine geschenkt. Ich habe nur gute Erinnerungen an die britische Armee. Hoffentlich ist die Zeit der Nazis endlich vorbei. An den Wachabwechsel am Kriegsverbrechergefängnis kann ich mich gut erinnern.

My dad was RAMC at Kladow with Green Jackets. We lived in Kladow for 3 years . Berlin was a wonderful place. Our family goes back every few years even though we moved to Canada. It’s really changed a lot, don’t even hear people speaking German much on transit anymore!

I'm pretty sure my Dad was here in the early 1950's. The KRRC was when we were in Winchester, then it changed to the 2nd Royal Greenjackets I think. I started school here, remember entering that main big door into a long corridor that ran past several doors into classrooms, and the was an assembly hall down to the left. Good grief, this video seems to be triggering memories that I had long forgotten as a 5 year old. We were in family quarters in a block of flats somewhere like Vonboldesvink Strasse - I think. When I started, Dad used to cycle into the camp from where we were through some swampy woods, I remember the huge dragon flies. We cycled past some very big nice looking buildings before turning right into the main entrance up a slight slope. One day, -by mistake - I walked out of the camp at lunchtime and home for dinner (I was supposed to walk home 'on my own' to friends of Mum and Dad who were accomodated within the camp.) caused quite a fuss, and I got told off, and had to apologies in front of the class at school. It was a nice sunny day, remember it like yesterday ... felt quite proud of myself for finding my way home alone - NOT the welcome I expected when I got there though! Fabulous memories of very happy days. If this IS the right place, then there was a playground down outside to the rear going left, and a bank that went down onto a field, and there were silver birch trees along the bank. I was fascinated by their colour. We had school buses that all lined up and had numbers on. Mine had a 54 on it.

I served twice in Berlin Infantry Brigade, 1973-5 and 1988-9. My battalion, 1 KOSB, lived next door in Brooke Barracks. Happy days!
