What amazing memories I have of this. I remember Griff and the clock and that big sky ride. I don’t know why this was a one off event. I would love to visit somewhere like this now. Well done though to everyone who put it all together.

My grand fatherJacob Samuel came to Tredegar in 1904 . My grandmother joined him with 4 children a year or two later. My father Moses Samuel remembers the Tredegar riots. He was interviewed in Israel by the B B C about the riots. He told us that his father sent his children to different families to be safe, as they used to do in Ukraine . It seems that his father was very respected by the people of Tredegar. We have photos of them in Tredegar. They had a shop in Bridge Street. They moved to Cardiff and my Dad went to University there, His brother Ben studied medicine and practiced in Llanharen for a time. He married Lisa Einstein a second cousin of Albert Einstein. They kept in touch all through their lives in the U SA and later in Israelwith some families from Llanharen.

I live in Israel now. Us Welsh Israelis used to meet every year on St .David’s day! We read poetry and especially Dylan Thomas at these events.

I have come late to this fascinating documentary. My father was born in Brynmawr in 1912, eventually left in the mid 30s for work in Yorkshire. He had great respect for Jewish people. Some of the surnames are familiar but not the story of the riots. My grandparents are buried in the Brynmawr cemetery. I’m now off to research the riots and the history of the Jews in Wales. Diolch, Oliver, and all those involved in this memorable production.

A very moving doc, especially as it is narrated by a non-Jew. It's a paradox that Jew's are loved and at the same time hated by non-Jews.

Hi Oliver, I just watched your film. Very moving. My family was from that community and across the Welsh valleys in 19c. Yes, all left, but it's part of our family stories and not forgotten

Loving the Welsh accent . Lovely looking food too but I imagine severe garlic breath for the next two days. Soup Looks a bit like a savoury porridge. Imagine you could do that.

Met Mr. Shin while in Korea . Attended his wedding where his aunt dressed him down for always holding his head cocked to the side for the photos. You understood her intentions even if the language was different. One of his students asked if he ever used the martial arts in real life. He told of the time there were a gang of a dozen or so thugs robbing the villagers. They ask for his help as they knew he was a red (brown) belt practicing the honorable martial arts. The thugs laughed at him and chased him down the street. He said he was scared but took a stand in a narrow area where he could address two or three thugs at a time. He said that he then began to relax and that it became fun to thump on the bad actors. He was an oriental knight that personified living the righteous code

I used to go to stay with my Aunt & Uncle in Ebbw Vale in the 50/60's, when the line closed with had to go by coach which took all day - 10:00 am to 6.pm by 1968 when I had a car it still took over 3 hours from West London before all the town bypasses were built, last time I went in 2001 it was less then 2 hours..

I watched this film mesmerised... I was a child, living in Blaenavon. My parents were members of the Brynmawr Shul.. The building, next to Abe Brest's house was the place where five or six times a year we would attend for services. My grandfather used to attend every week, travelling from Blaenavon over the mountain road by horse and trap. He would stay with one of his 'Landsmen' (people from the old country). The Camermans, The Siddles, The Solomons, The Brests.. All now having left - but my memories are still vibrant.

I have to say I found this really interesting . I should know the history of Brynmawr really as I am from Nantyglo. Right the way through school none of this was ever mentioned , I guess it got pushed to one side . Our history lessons was mostly Crawshay Bailey which was interesting too .

A most interesting documentary - would love to learn more! There were many Jewish communities in the valleys, Merthyr being one of the largest. You've mentioned Tredegar (and the riots), Ebbw Vale, Abertillery, and Brynmawr; there were also communities in Blaina, Llanhilleth, Newbridge, Abercarn, and Pontypool.
