Artscroll went off the deep end with how they translated Song of Songs. They're ridiculed for their decision. They could have provided Rashi's commentary in the commentary and provided an accurate translation.

Excellent presentation. "this world is not our home, we are just passing through" is not the words that Jesus taught.

Very helpful information, though I'd respectfully disagree with some parts of your section on "Bias" toward the end. 😊 1. Of course, it helps to compare with multiple translations. That includes translations outside one's camp. That includes even single person translations (as opposed to committee translations). Such as single person New Testament translations (e.g. Moffat, Knox, Phillips, Lattimore, Bruce, Hart, Wright, Bird, Ruden, many biblical commentaries have their own individual scholarly translations). In short, as a general rule, comparison is often helpful. 2. That said, I think the average Bible student is more likely to see more light across different translation philosophies than across different Christian camps. That is, I think it's usually more helpful to compare different translation philosophies (e.g. formal equivalence vs. functional equivalence) within the same camp (e.g. evangelical) than it is to compare the same translation philosophy (e.g. functional equivalence) across different camps. For example, the Catholic NAB and the evangelical NIV are each functional equivalent translations, and while they have their Protestant and Catholic distinctives which are helpful to note, I think it's more enlightening in terms of understanding a particular biblical passage to compare the NASB with the NIV since the differences in translation philosophies shed more light. Of course, it might be best to compare different translation philosophies from two or more different Christian camps, though I think if one had to stick with a single camp, then the evangelical camp is the most diverse in terms of Bible translation philosophies (along with secondary factors like availability of good Bible apps, variety of physical Bibles in all shapes and sizes, supplemental biblical study material if one wishes to use a particular base Bible translation like the ESV or NIV, and so on and so forth). 3. Personally, I'd tend to shy away from Bible translations for which there's strong evidence there's misrepresentation of the original biblical texts. Such as the JW's New World Translation, The Passion translation, etc. Or at least, while these Bible translations can be useful to compare with, I think it'd be best to place them nearer the bottom of the comparison list after one has compared with other Bible translations.

What do you guys think about the so-called Pagan connections to and origins of the tradition of Christmas. I have been struggling for some years now about this. As a church I follow, and one that I love and respect I would appreciate your thoughts on this subject. Thanks and God bless.

This teaching was confusing. Salvation is not based on our works. Jesus Christ was a complete Savior and we are saved by grace. So it sounds like you are saying we get saved by grace but we have to work to keep salvation which was a gift by grace? That we lose our salvation if we do not do good works? In our life after we receive salvation and eternal life we are to renew are minds, be obedient and produce fruit of the spirit by manifesting that gift of holy spirit. But to say if we fail to do so then we are back to square one and without salvation and we have to start all over again? Seems contrary to salvation by grace and Christ being the complete sacrifice. So his sacrifice was not good enough for our salvation and eternal life?

Consider Luke 6:21-23, "Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’ " In order to prophesy, cast out demons, and perform miracles, one MUST be saved, born again, etc. But Jesus is saying that being saved at some past point in your life is not going to assure you of getting into the kingdom. Neither God nor Jesus will violate a person's free will. If a person chooses to neglect such a great salvation (Heb 2:1-3). We are not (Heb 2:1) to allow ourselves to "drift away". The Bible teaches us that we are partners in salvation not simply a passive recipient. Consider Hebrews 3:6, "But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are His house, if we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope of which we boast." So, to us who have been saved there is an imperative - hold fast our confidence and boasting in our hope. This is underscored in Heb 3:12-14, "Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called 'today,' that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end." So, we can see that the obedience we have to God's Word is work. The Bible says to renew our minds, that is work. But what kind of work? It is not work that earns or provides salvation, but it is the work of being faithful unto the end. If we do not perform that work, we run the risk of hearing Jesus say, "depart from me you worker of lawlessness."

@ renewing our mind is work no doubt about it. We are to walk according to Gods Word after receiving salvation however you are bringing that back around to KEEPING our Salvation. Salvation is by Gods grace and Jesus Christ’s obedience and sacrifice. Yes we work and try to be faithful to the end but to say that you forfeit Salvation is totally contrary to everything it stands for and Jesus Christs accomplishments. You can’t have salvation based on grace and then turn around change it to a work based salvation. That doesn’t even make common sense. Kind of like the Trinity which makes no sense. Perseverance and faithfulness is work and is needed and we will see the rewards or the lack of rewards when we are judged by Christ.
