It's hard sometimes to get them to cooperate within range of the shoreline alot of long landers but you guys still did pretty good. Good stuff!
@TooManyHobbiesКүн бұрын
Yeah I notice that late season they’ll want to land a little further from shore and be safer, we had the decoys out a little far to begin with then pulled them in and it seemed to help. Thanks man!

Waders are complete junk. Look elsewhere. Leaked in multiple spots in just a couple weeks of use.

Unfortunately it seems like there’s reviews across the board, I have a pair that’s lasted 3 years, these ones that I haven’t used as much and they’re fine, some friends who have a few years as well, some who have the same experience as you. Hard to find anything that’ll last a decent amount of time anymore for any piece of gear. Don’t build em like they used to

No flotation foam replacement? I had a friend that did that in his boat, he got caught in a sudden storm about 10 years ago. Needless to say the never recovered his body, nor did they ever find a trace of his boat.
@TooManyHobbies5 күн бұрын
There’s flotation in foam in the boat, it just wasn’t shown in this video. Decided to go a different route than pour in foam because of what happened to the foam I pulled out

How good is mallard and woods or teal to eat ? I’ve never had duck, real gamey ?
@TooManyHobbies10 күн бұрын
It’s all about how you prepare it, they all have their own taste and I personally think it’s very good, it’s a red meat so you can prepare it as you would any other red meat. But a good brine and proper prep will ensure you have some great game to eat!
@coltensawyer67615 күн бұрын
@@TooManyHobbies I was gonna brine soak it then marinade for a day. Then grill with some spices on it and also make poppers ! Compared to like deer what’s the gamey level ? Depends ? I got mallards

Very neat and tidy work! Looked on the page. Didn’t see it, may have missed it. But do you have any videos showing your actual diver spreads on the water? And spreads for different situations.
@TooManyHobbies17 күн бұрын
There’s video that show it, but nothing explained into any details, but I’ll make a note to put together a video of different spreads and situations that we use them for and try to put that together soon! Appreciate the comment

I met Luke 4 years ago at the Ohio decoy show am happy to call him and his wife friends.He is a very down to earth person and as he calls us retirees (72)was glad to be treated with much respect and as one of the group of the carving community. I wish him the greatest of success on his career as a carver and by the way I grew up in Toledo Ohio and hunted all the places you do but now live on Drummond Island in the UP. I also know your buddy Zack George he is a good guy too!
@TooManyHobbies18 күн бұрын
It’s a small world! Zack’s a great friend, and having a chance to talk with Luke and get some projects planned for this year has been great! I’m sure you have some awesome stories hunting down here, I always enjoy hearing stories from the past and learning more about the area, I hope you’re still carving up there and enjoying the UP!
@waltpapke550217 күн бұрын
@ yes I have lots of stories and am still hunting around 45 days a year and still carving cork decoys.I enjoy your videos it reminds me of the days I was in Ohio we were layout shooters too and hunted Sandusky Bay and also hunted Woodstock peninsula
@TooManyHobbies17 күн бұрын
I’m glad to hear that you’re still doing what you love, it’s hard to put it down! Lol and thank you for the kind words, I make these videos as memories for myself, but as a professional videographer it’s my creative escape to make things I enjoy, similar to your carving, so I’m happy to hear when people enjoy them. Still layout gunning and hunting Woodtick as well! Lol

So your normal lines are 75' with a dozen deeks, and you add 20' of anchor line to each each? This line is a full 150' but includes the 20-25' anchor line to the first decoy? Love your videos.
@TooManyHobbies21 күн бұрын
It’s become a mix of both, I have 2 lines that are the full 150’ and include the 25’ of anchor line, and then 5 of my lines are 75’ with 25’ anchor lines. The reason for this is the 75’ lines make shore hunting setups way easier because we generally only need 2-5’ for anchors on shore. Then when we layout hunt I’ll throw the anchor lines on those before we go out since we’re in 8-15’ for layout hunting. Hopefully that makes sense, I appreciate you watching!
@gofish223321 күн бұрын
@@TooManyHobbies Makes perfect sense - I'll set mine up that way (75' with the 25' optional anchor lines). We hunt from shore, boat, and on points so water depth varies a lot and it's frustrating not being prepared and needing to move decoys on the line so they don't go under
@TooManyHobbies21 күн бұрын
@gofish2233 Okay good! It’s the most versatile way I’ve found to set them up. The big reason for the 150’ line is those decoys are much bigger so I use that line to either get further out from shore or as a backstop for birds when we’re layout hunting. Then I have a Squaw like set up the same way just because that anchor style is very specific

Man I miss hunting the lake, I moved to OK to guide but I know exactly where you guys are. We used to hunt a marsh off suder road just across the MI border headed north out of point place, you can access it by kayak or a boat if the water is high enough. I used to smash a ton of ducks and geese back there (shot my first band there) it might be worth checking out!
