24-year-old female here: dancing like this is SO FUN, and it makes me so sad that more people my age don’t know it! I’m lucky that I grew up in a Christian community where all the young people lived to do west coast swing and Lindy hop. It’s WAY more fun, entertaining, romantic, and athletic than the weird jigging and twerking in place young people do at clubs and dance bars in the 21st century.

Now you all just need to start a class at BYU that teaches this dance, Vernacular Jazz, Lindy Hop, etc. Bring more African American and historically significant styles to campus.

“ “ DZIEKUJĄ ALE JA NIE LUBI TAŃCZYĆ MAZUR!” Freely translated this is, “Thank you for asking me to dance but I do not like to dance the Mazur.” Can you imagine that the young woman below did not want to join in the vivacious Mazur Dance? Well, it is a movie! And her refusal is part of the story line of the movie. Mieczysława Ćwiklińska The movie in question was the Polish film, ZNACHOR which premiered in 1937. What a great surprise are the Social Ballroom scenes of the Mazur Dance in this film! It is a perfect encapsulation of the upper-middle class Dance Form with decided elements of the Mazurek variant. (Somehow, I missed this in my earlier research.) Of equal importance is the communal -conviviality, the social atmosphere, of the participants! It is such a joy! You want to be there! But let us first watch the ballroom scene in its entirety. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGO3pqCirbeAabs ZNACHOR 1:40:39 - 1:45:22 Now isn’t this a treat! czyta ESSAY na ACADEMIA.EDU!

It's Hungarian as far as I can tell. I am by no means an expert but some of the pieces are absolutely Hungarian.

The ladies voices when they chant should be a higher tone. It lacks the usual slavic intensity and excitement
@a24girlygirl Жыл бұрын
It’s a hungarian dance, not slavic.

@a24girlygirl Zoltan zurofsky would disagree. I spelled his name wrong. I would know this as I learned this dance from he and his wife and performed it for an entire year. I also sang and performed it on the contra and violin.

@@carolmarie5105 You mean Zsuráfszky Zoltán?😂😂

@a24girlygirl Well, it's been 20 years since those times. And who are you Ms Ethnography? Tell us all how you know about the "slavic" folk arts. Are you Roman Catholic or Orthodox? What dance training, music training do you have in the "slavic" arts? If you belong to this silly Mormon group of posers don't bother.
@carolmarie5105 Жыл бұрын
@a24girlygirl And it's hypocritical for a Mormon to do a "slavic" folk dance centered around a patron Saint of the community. Where do you think "slavic" dancing comes from? Not from outer space or golden plates. They are religious celebrations, like the spring celebrations by the Croatians for their patron St George. No wonder the Mormons won't do Croatian, you don't want to sing Christ be with Us. The costumes you parade around in are for mass, mass for Roman Catholics in Poland, Slovakia, Croatia and Hungary. I find it offensive that Mormans do this, because we all know what your bottom line is, to convert everyone to your mormanism with your white savior complexes.
