Yes, taking or seizing the Vor just means initiating action first, or securing the timing advantage. "Vor" literally just translates to "before" so when you take the Vor from your opponent, you are forcing them to react to your action. If your opponent takes the Vor first, you are then in the "Nach" (translates to after). But if you can use your opponents "Vor" (or initial action) to your advantage and interrupt it with your own, your action is then neither "Vor" nor "Nach" but "Indes." (Indes is hard to translate to English, but I best described it as "while" meaning during your opponent's action. Short story, yeah I think you used the German term correctly lol. Great fights.

On a side note, i keep seeing you try to move in and bind up his sword with your arm, but i think you need to move in a lot further to do it successfully. Idk anything about this kind of fencing. Not sure which one you are but why is there no pause between each point? And no ref as well. The one on the left is extremely passive and the one on the right is extremely agressive. Im assuming youre on the right? I really like this set up more than the straight line set up as in epee foil and saber
@CafeUlg2 ай бұрын
@@joshpearson3606 We're just sparring for fun and we tap every time we're hit and then keep going. So we don't need a ref, we keep going until we both get too tired 😆 Yeah I'm the one on the right, though I felt like the fencer on the left gave me so much trouble. His attacks seemed to come out of nowhere 🤣
@joshpearson36062 ай бұрын
@CafeUlg well take this with a gallon of salt but maybe don't be so aggressive. The other is more comfortable being passive so you being less aggressive might get them out of that comfort zone a bit. Also rushing right after each point might make it easier to lose focus. Take your time and play around with timing and keep your opponent guessing. MOST IMPORTANTLY THOUGH keep having fun
@CafeUlg2 ай бұрын
Haha I'm usually quite a defensive fighter but I'd fought five different people before this fight and I clocked he was a defensive fighter too and it's no fun if we're both defensive 🤣 Being able to switch between being aggressive and being defensive mid fight is something I do need to work on though 🤔
@joshpearson36062 ай бұрын
@CafeUlg both being defensive is definitely not fun but maybe fake some more switch things up, I'm assuming you can use the whole square in German style but use the whole square. You can't walk into a castle, you have to find a weakness. I'm talking as an epee fencer with not that much experience and based on watching this type of fencing I am sure epee is easier so again... gallon of salt. I had a student who was way better than me since I was kind of a fill in and I had to try different angles and different strategies. He loved to flick so I ended up finding a weakness by putting the tip of my epee right under his guard so that every time he flicked I would get his hand before the flick came through. I know that's not a thing in saber but my point is use everything to your advantage, switch up your feet and position with every point and I think you'll have more luck against the defensive players
@Chroma7102 ай бұрын
It's dependent on the club if you pause or not, mine prefer not to and just keep a mental count of how many points we got left. (typically 4 points total, 1 for limbs, 2 for torso, 3 for head and 4 for neck)
