1:08:00 How to use the SAT solver to check if φ and Ψ are equivalent? R: You want to check if it is true that: φ <-> Ψ . Which is equivalent to check if (φ AND Ψ) OR (NOT φ AND NOT Ψ) is satisfiable.

the argument at 10:00 that the decision tree for the comparison model requires n+1 leaves did not click. to clarify (using 'element' to mean a member of the data structure, i.e. each element is associated with a key): 1. the comparison model _cannot_ operate on a data structure, other than fetching and comparing element keys. 2. thus the only part of the Set interface we are concerned with investigating using the comparison model is _find(k)_ . we should view the decision tree discussed from 5:00-16:30 as _specifically_ representing the algorithm for _search_ - nothing else (not insert, delete, etc.). 3. given remark 2, the only meaningful input to the decision tree is a specific _key_ k ( *not* an element!). the desired output is the *element* _corresponding_ to that key. (it is important to appreciate the 'black block'-iness of the tree here. we know _nothing_ about the actual operations required to find a match, other than the fact that all the operations are themselves comparisons.) 4. given our desired output is an element, this explains why there are n+1 outputs (corresponding to an answer for each element of the data structure + 'none'). this explains the student's (very reasonable) question at 10:48.

at 1:46, he claims 2 of the sort methods (permutation, selection) we learned in the last lecture are n^2. however, we actually showed permutation sort to be n!n. i suppose he meant Omega(n^2), as in both are _minimum_ n^2.

The best known and perhaps oldest boost converter must be the gasoline ignition system where a coil is saturated with DC-current from the 12V battery and the rotating mechanical or electronic switch breaks the current at the right time in relation to each piston's phase to create a massive voltage drop over the sparkplug gap thus forming a spark that ignites the fuel/air kixture. Close followed by the electric fence which works sort of the same way and, of course, the defibrillator which resets a heart having lost it's internal chamber synchronization - a procedure known as cardioversion which I've personally benefitted from twice in my life. The two latter first charges a condenser to the energy (voltage) required which then feeds an 'ignition coil' to deliver the 'blow'. Thankfully you're in total coma, when they hit the defibrillator 'trigger', and you wake up fully restored and ready to go home for another MIT OpenCourseWare- session.

Thanks for the great lecture, MIT! One question at the end, if anyone can help please: it's said "it can be recursively update Beta", well if you can recursively update Beta, that means you can more and more sample date coming in, in this case why bother using Bayesian, why not just collect all the incoming data to get estimate of theta? Or it wasn't looking for estimate at all since begin but just looking for distribution? --- Many Thanks if anyone can help advice!

what is meant by the remark at 9:20 about the previous two lectures using 'metaphorical arrays'? is this refering to the 'memory allocation model' described by Demaine in L02?
