I notice that Victoria De Los Angeles isn't included. She had the common sense to vary her repertoire as she aged. I don't know if she had any bad performances, if so, I haven't heard a note out of place.

Wagnerian soprano:it is not "high"dramatic. Hochdramatisch is better translating to "big dramatic", because Wagnerian roles are the lowest soprano roles, she can be sung even by a mezzo most of the times.

Honorary? LOL! First, someone needs to school Sock Monkey in production values. Having the name, birthday and aria plastered across the screen, obscuring the singers' face is Internet Posting 101. You put that at the bottom and don't obscure the image. Second, the choices are a joke. Clearly Sock Monkey likes them old, worn out, flat, out of breath. Really cruel and silly video. Finishing with the cult-troll Magda Olivero at age 96 says it all. She's the worst of the lot, but Sock Monkey pays tribute to her.......what? She was never any good at any age!

Callas was still 49 in that London concert. She would turn 50 a few days after. As to Caballé she is not singing live... Is a poorly lip singing video. She wasn't 74 when she recorded that song, but 64.

OK I’m gonna say something that’s probably gonna get me hated in the opera community but I feel like this is just mocking these ladies because yeah they’re past their prime they’re not as young as they were but the fact that they can still sing like that in any capacity and the fact that they’re still doing what they love because they love doing it should be admired not made fun of This is ridiculous.

Should add Caballee in Orange (Norma). And there are also some tenors and basses around. Melchior Siegmund and Siegfried, M Price Liebvestod, Nilsson's Salome at the Met Gala. Nice to hear the famous Mexico City Aida! She brought down the house. But that Turandot at the end is something else!

I was a bit gobsacked to see only 596 Likes It's just crazy, I'm no Classical or Opera nut, but Classical music is the music that has lasted hundreds of years, opera is the singing that has lasted hundreds of years. You would think that if someone had gone to the trouble of putting together the best clips, at least 1 million people out of a population of 8.1 Billion might watch.

The Tebaldi clip is from her last American concert tour. I saw her in Chicago on that tour and she was remarkable given that she had been singing for 35 years at that point.

@@user9xyz836 Yes the film is but that was the year that Tebaldi did her last international tour and I saw her in Chicago. Corelli did not always sing with her during that tour but did on occasion.

All that I can say is that when the vocal will not be in form it is the artiste total that I see. and for me that is very important.I don not have to go I can stay at home (. but I go to see a wonderfull artiste that has so much love and understanding of the music and stage . ) It is a miester class from them Edward Arckless ex Royal Oper Ballet Covent Garden London and conservatoire ville de Paris.

There are many great sopranos here, Brigit Nilsson, Montserrat Caballe, Maria Callas. A great and underrated soprano was Eileen Farrell, and there are some great older sopranos as well such as Rosa Ponselle. The one who stood the most in this compilation was Franco Corelli. lol

The entire Christa Ludwig concert that her clip originates from exists here on KZbin and its dated 1994. (Although there's a version of her Morgen excerpt dated 1993). That would make Ludwig about 66 in the clip NOT 75. She was born in 1928. She still sounds magnificent for 66. The tone and vocal integrity are solid and she sounds entirely like herself. Only her highest (soprano) notes are gone which isn't unusual for someone age 66.
