Great interview. I was a member of the Illumination Engineering Society for many years and plan to rejoin. I work at a utility as an Account Manager in San Francisco. Some of the LED retrofits create "glare" and I am forming an informal team with the City engineer and my customers to identify the LED glare sites and resolve them. I have been in energy business since 1983.

Interesting topic....my fiance' is in law enforcement and was hit while working an emergency scene. The issue of flashing quickly reminds me of strobing, which should be familiar to those in emergency fields. At least in LE, we know that one tool at night is a strobing flashlight in order to disorient someone for a tactical advantage. Seems to make sense that the same could apply in these situations without intending that effect. We also know that it's easier to see things at night with a lower max/min ratio, rather than intensity. So the lower level at night also seems to make sense, while still drawing attention to the emergency situation. I, like many other aging drivers, do tend to have a lot of issue with glare at night. The more that can be done to reduce glare in low light situations, the better. I'm glad you all are working on this.

Wonderful to listen in yet I do find it of interest no one mentions the Coleman Company who was truly the first and biggest to bring light to night in homes across America

Totally agree with Jay and Karen that UL is not the best organization to provide HCL guidelines (starting around 17:47). I disagree with Omar's point (16:44 to 17:47) that HCL controls should not have manual inputs. A smart enough control system could account for user input without considering it an override.
