My guess is Tim's ideas were too dark for SNL. They put weird stuff in cut for time, but a lot of super dark stuff doesn't make it past writing. Or it's going to go flat at dress rehearsal (live test audience). So I bet he wrote some killer sketches that just didn't fly with a broad audience. And I think many of those are reworked for his Netflix show, "I Think You Should Leave." It's clear that Macfarlane and Hart love him, and Andy Samberg is the lead producer for ITYSL. So they know he's funny, and they got him a show with multiple seasons. SNL was just a stepping stone.

Tim Robinson is amazing, SNL is one of the least funny things I've ever seen.
