Get MIL some hearing aids, (the cheapest that can be found would be fine), and keep suggesting/telling her to get her hearing checked at every opportunity Op communicates with her. Tell this to the husband and FIL as well. She could have hearing issues, but then again, she could just be selfish and entitled, it is most likely the second option. Make this a big deal and an issue that will be addressed. Tell them that her refusal to listen/ not able to listen is a safety issue for the baby. MIL would make a big fuss over her hearing being fine, and then Op should tell her directly (when the husband and FIL are present): "why don't you listen to anyone? If your hearing is not the issue, then why do you ignore everyone?". (Or something along those lines). But op is tired and completely exhausted from being a new Mom, so she might not have any spare energy or time to do this.

NTA. OP was following his late wife's instructions. I understand that his daughter would've loved to have it sooner, but it was not meant for earlier. It was important to his wife that these were for graduation day. There are obviously other issues at play because this is not a normal reaction to something like this. The post seems to imply OP's daughter had a rough 8 years. This is why I'd put my post mortem wishes in writing, so that it cannot be disputed on who asked for it.

Reminds me of the second wedding of a friend. Her brother said he could not come. He added: I'll be there for the next marriage. In the NL, at the time second marriages were rare and still divorce is shamefull. The second marriage failed as well, but up till now there is no third.

I would go for the wedding, but I would stop the excessive visiting. Maybe Christmas, but why birthdays and anniversaries? Only do it if you want to.... Maybe OP makes great money, but I wouldn't want to travel that far that often. Even family visiting him 3 times a year is a lot and very nice of them. My mom and sister (and her family) live in a different province and I will be visiting for the 2nd time in 3 years since they moved there. I can't afford to go more often and they understand.... Plus they moved there so I dont really think I should be the one forking out the money to visit everytime but what are you going to do? They can get phone calls and fb chats for the holidays and birthdays.

ESH OP made the decision to move to another country which had huge implications regarding family visits. He also chooses to fly home for so many occasions. His family visits three time a year. I live an hour away and still battle to see family due to work and life obligations. No one is rubbing it in his face that he is not partnered they are just living their lives so stop thinking it is all about you OP. That said, his brother should definitely include the best friend unless there is a deep reason not to. Personally this is not a hill I would die on. Go to the wedding but cut back on visits for smaller occasions. Send a card for birthdays unless they are milestones.
@mutteringcrone12105 ай бұрын
This cycle of spending every spare moment going 'home' to visit the family is a ridiculous burden. Well, unless it's what you want to do. Just because you live elsewhere doesn't mean you have to do this. Take your vacations to go on a trip, camping, skiing, relaxing on a beach, or just working on your own home. As to the second wedding, I 'm on the fence. Might be nice to support your brother, but it is his second one.

@@RawReddit No, I don't think so. I certainly wouldn't go for anniversaries, birthdays, and probably not funerals either. The fact it's wedding number two for him really makes it unlikely. When weddings become habits, it's just silly.

Your friend is a lazy parent and doesn't want to do what needs to be done. The fact that you're telling her what is going on with her child is just putting a mirror in her face. That means she can't take the easy way out of things anymore and actually has to cook for her child. There's no excuses nowadays on cooking for your family or cooking in general. They have crockpots, electric pressure cookers and air fryers. Meal prep and or plan hell you can buy onions, peppers, ginger, and garlic fresh and frozen and in a paste it's not hard to do more foods are pre-prepped for meals now. You can't even say you don't have time to cook. So many parents work and cook with busy jobs and lives. At the end of it all this is about your child's health and life.

I responded to this on FB and people lost their minds. TL; DR- Common sense doesn't exist in FB Land. First and foremost: It's all about the delivery. OP stated this in a very holier than thou way that probably felt insulting to the mother. Second: Time poorness is a thing. If the mom asked you to babysit for a week, it's probably because she has no support system so what feels like she may be ignoring your advice could be literally that she's hesitant to constantly ask you for help because she's a single working mother. Additionally, anyone who has raised a child knows that 12-13 is when the baby weight falls off and they develop in other areas so it makes sense for a child to lose several pounds over the course of a year. Finally, remember that this is a 1 minute clip and we've only heard one side of the story. The child could just have food aversions and the mom isn't fully educated in that area so doesn't know how to accomodate the child. Mom could also not be very great at cooking so she does the best she can with microwave/freezer meals. You never know someone's whole situation so don't always be so quick to judge.

I’m missing the part where they call her a gold digger or even blame her. OP just goes straight to defending herself and the daughter takes that as OP blaming their mother for their father’s financial problems. So I guess ESH because there’s no actual healthy communication even though they’re grown adults 🤦♀️
