There is a Spyderco Nirvana listed on Ebay for 1,400 $. Who buys all of the Spyderco sprint runs and limited edition knives. Spyderco has brought out the Para 3 in a bunch of different steels. They went from S30 V to S45VN, Maxamet, Cruwear, S15V, S110V to Elmax and other steels. They also have dealer exclusives. Why would they do that if not for collectors?

The s30v g10 shaman was also my first spyderco when I decided to try one other than benchmade. The shaman hasn’t left my pocket since I got it. I prefer it to the superfreek although it’s a different type of knife but similar. The handle ergos and blade shape are just perfect with this knife. I also added a CME button for the lock which makes the knife a million times easier to actuate with BOTH hands too

The pocket clip looks to be a tremendous improvement over the previous design.. I really don’t mind much about how much force it takes to open and close on the previous ones, but the pocket clip makes it hard to hold firmly without creating a hot spot on my palm and causing pain when grasping the knife and holding it tight so it doesn’t slip or move.. I really wish Microtech would offer a different pocket clip that I could buy to replace it.. It makes me not want to carry or use it much because the pocket clip interferes that much and creates such an issue.. I would be happy if they even made a pocket clip like the one on the ultramax or whatever it is … Something that would be a direct fit to replace the horrible pocket clip mine came with.. I contacted Microtech to inquire about purchasing a pocket clip that would fit and not give me this problem, but sadly they do not offer any other design that is a direct replacement for it.. It’s a great knife but that pocket clip just gets in the way too much to actually use the knife.. These new designs look awesome, but I’m not going to spend another 500bucks when all I really need is a better designed pocket clip to replace this very poorly designed one it came with.. Maybe some day they will offer some better choices to support their products.. I’d even consider an aftermarket part if it was a quality part..

Not an issue I noticed on this one, if it’s something that bothers you I’d certainly reach out to the warranty department. Likely just something QC overlooked.

I'm a fan of Gayle Bradley designs. The only one of his Spyderco designs I lack in my collection is the GB1. I have all the rest of his Spyderco collabs. He knew how to make a knife that cuts well, and feels good in the hand.

Great analysis. I handle so many flashy collectible knives it’s easy to take for granted a strong knife that just cuts well without a bunch of frills. Nice refreshing piece.

@@CuttingEdgeEDCI agree. Neither the Advocate or GB1 are a dream to fidget with, but they just plain work. They cut well, and the ergos let you do that for prolonged periods without hot spots on your hand.

I have had my eyes on the ram-lok for a while now, and tried the auto for the first time at a show yesterday, there were no ram-loks available. I have say, the ergos on the auto really delighted me, I was surprised, to the point I am now paranoid I will be unhappy with the larger cutaway for your finger behind the blade when choking up. The auto felt just perfect. Also felt like a beast, in a good way. Your review nailed those points for me and validated my initial thoughts, I completely agree with you man, thank you. I get there are design improvements on the ram-lok, i.e. gimping (sp?) on the top spine near the back of the blade, weight, etc. but there are also cons to the manual, ergos, ram-lok mechanism wearing away and failing throughout time, the newest ram-lok clip screws have been moved underneath the clip but not recessed so your pocket will grap the screws which is annoying, etc. The way the knife feels matters most to me, also autos are legal where I live so that is not a concern. One other question I was curious about is how the cutting edges compare between the two. It might be safe to assume the new ram-lok is a bit slicier due to the more narrow blade, but I have no idea. Curious your thoughts based on your experience. Cheers and thanks for the review man! Congrats on those awesome knives!
@CuttingEdgeEDC4 ай бұрын
Hey! Thanks for watching and taking time to share your thoughts! The most notable difference between the two has to be the ergonomics. The smaller radius finger choil, weight, contouring, and texturing on the auto definitely win out in my book. If you can have one of each, you’ll enjoy them both! If you can only have one I’d certainly recommend the auto. The cutting geometry may be nominally better on the Ram-Lok, but factoring in the height of the blade and the width of the swedge I don’t think the extra thickness of the stock is gonna amount to much.
@evile11743 ай бұрын
There is jimping on the spine on the auto also, just fyi

@@CuttingEdgeEDC my pleasure, thanks for getting back to me and for the feedback! I went with the auto and love it. I haven’t had the chance to hold one yet and that also added to my hesitation. I may end up getting a ram-lok down the road also as you mentioned lol. Thanks again! Cheers!
