it was great to find your video on this topic as I had been looking about whilst doing tests - I had got hung up on video versus stills as I do video and photo work with my DSRL - but also whether even 4k video on my sony mobile can be useable to create product 360 spins and I find it can work nicely but was good to see your points against doing this. So I end up on the fence about video on mobile and dslr and whether shoot greenscreen or only white - been doing lots tests and your video was helpful but i think solution can vary per project due to time, or look or specs too!

Thanks. Glad you found this helpful. If you need to pull stills from the 360, then shooting stills (instead of video) is the way to go. Stills pulled from video can be tough to work with, but like you said, it really depends on the project's requirements. The 360 Viewer at Imajize is able to process both stills and video files. Feel free to check it out: www.imajize.com

So in the program you are using it is able to give you a smooth 360 view of an object with Just the photos that you took?
@Imajize
@Imajize 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. Here's an example of one on our website: www.imajize.com/ The smoothness depends on the number of photos you take. A typical 360 view will have anywhere between 20 and 72 photos, however some 360 views can have as many as 180 photos. They rarely go beyond 180, as 360 views with excessive frames tend to take quite long to load on a website.

My question here is this...What happens to all the 360 spins if they are used on multiple platforms after i delete my account with Imajize? Do i suddenly lose everything or do my links stay active?
@Imajize
@Imajize 4 жыл бұрын
Good question. When you cancel or delete your account, all of your 360 views will stop working. If you are on a 14-day free trial, then your 360 views will continue working until the free trial period is over unless you delete and/or cancel your account before the free trial ends.

How do you stage products that cannot be placed on a flat surface without tipping over? How do you hold them upright for a 360 deg photoshoot? Then how do you remove the supports quickly from all the images? Thanks!
@Imajize
@Imajize 5 жыл бұрын
Good question EliDoubleAlpha. The short answer is, it depends on the product... For example, a bicycle without a kickstand is typically hung upside-down with fishing string (the string is usually not visible enough to worry about, and the images are then flipped 180 degrees in Photoshop/Lightroom/etc. In another example, shooting a chef knife can be tough because it usually wants to tip over. A generally good solution for this is to place the knife upside-down on a very strong neodymium magnet. From there, we would build an ActionScript in Photoshop to automate the process of removing the magnet from each frame. Granted, shooting knives is relatively technical endeavor-but very fun and rewarding once you have a good system set up. Imajize is in the process of a company name change and full rebrand (same owners and team, though). The new company is www.SpinShot.io and we will have lots of new tutorials all about this stuff. For now, though, you're more than welcome to check out www.imajize.com to learn more.

Which models are those led panels you use to put the light in the back and front? do you obtain pure white almost directly , yes? Or maybe they aren't led? Thanks.

They are actually AlienBees strobe lights. It also has a LED modeling lamp, but it's the strobe flash that exposes the shot. We wrote a review on this light on our blog, feel free to check it out: www.imajize.com/360-tutorials/360-photography-equipment/alienbees-b800-perfect-strobe-unit-360-product-photography/

Thank you for your response, I have the iconasys automatic turntable, and I have difficult to make dissappear the acrylic "legs" on the acrylic riser (similar to your acrylic riser, not very difficult to diy) on the final photo automatically ( I need to increase a lot the levels and then the picture is not good) . I have a big led panel background 60cmx60cm all inside a lightbox, but the reflect of the object in the acrylic base makes be darker when the "legs" appears while rotating. But if I increase the bright levels, the object also changes a lot colors, specially hard with white objects. In your video is easy because the object is not white, and the reflect on the acrylic base dissappears completely too, because of the b800 (I suppose the led background only is not enough to get pure white) . I'm not sure that I can configure the iconasys software to work with studio flash like b800. Is your software compatible with iconasys? Probably you don't sell the software anyway and is only compatible with your turntable.
@Imajize
@Imajize 6 жыл бұрын
Glad you found my reply helpful! I guess you can say we "invented" the design for the acrylic legs (we called this system the "centerless turntable adapter"), so we were a bit surprised to see the identical design being sold elsewhere on the web just a few months after the date of posting this video. The design works really well! However, we do have a few years of experience refining this design to work with a wide range of product colors (both dark and white colored products). This style works best with standard photography strobe lights, as we found it optimal to have a relatively high degree of overall brightness control (this also helps keep your depth of field incredibly wide, your camera noise low, and it eliminates motion blur). It's designed for pro and semi-pro setups. We spent quite a bit of R&D on the thickness of the plexiglass because there was a fine balance between rigidity and the ability to easily blow out the plexiglass edges in the background of the image. What we like about our centerless turntable adapter is that it is a relatively simple design with lots of subtle engineering details. Unfortunately it's a bit difficult to mix and match 360 photography hardware/software systems. These solutions tend to be pretty integrated from end-to-end. If you would like to learn more about 360 photography lighting and tricks of the trade, feel free to check out our learning center if you haven't already: www.imajize.com/360-tutorials/ We plan on coming out with some more tutorials on lighting, and I can even see if it would be possible for us to cover one specifically on using the Imajize centerless turntable adapter with LED video lights (no promises for the short term, but I think it would be a great topic!).

Which is the exact thickness of the plexyglass base, and the thickness of the legs? A better design is possible, ussing 3 legs instead of 4, it requires a base, not very hard to make and better to center it. Very easy to do specially with CNC machine. No screws needed.

Our support team would be happy to talk to you about the product details. I'll include a link below where you can get in touch with them about your question: www.imajize.com/about/contact/ Thanks for the suggestion on how we could improve the design, by the way. The 3-leg system is an interesting approach.

Thank you for sharing this 360° session, and for the idea of using a transparent piece of Plexiglas to hold the shoe in place for the alternative view. May I ask one question? I am almost sure that closing down the lens is not sufficient to have the entire product in focus, particularly when the tip of the shoe is close to the camera. I noticed that you aren't using focus-stacking; therefore, how do you set the focus for maximum depth-of-field? Thanks in advance.
@Imajize
@Imajize 7 жыл бұрын
You bet! As for your question about making more of the product in focus, we do a few things. I'll list them below: 1. We increase the aperture value to around F/14 (using bright strobe lights will help with this). 2. Use a DSLR camera with a cropped sensor (smaller sensors increase depth of field, whereas larger sensors make the depth of field very shallow). 3. Keep the zoom level at 50mm or less (less zoom will also optically widen the depth of field-this is why fisheye GoPro lenses have everything magically in focus). These three tricks will help quite a bit. I hope you find them useful! We're in the processes of adding some really great video tutorials to our website next month (January 2018). Feel free to check back around that time for more videos like this one. www.imajize.com

Hello Micheal, first of all; thank you for this great explanation! It helped a lot with my setup. I have some troubeling items that I have to photograph. These are little sculptures (25 cm) that are made out of glass. The glass is coloured and there are also some white parts, like the head and feet. I'm trying to accomplish a pure white background by changing the curves in Capture One pro and PS, but this results in a blowout of the white parts of the sculpture as well. Do you have a solution to this problem? Thanks in advance.
@Imajize
@Imajize 10 жыл бұрын
Hey there, Sorry to hear about that! I might suggest purchasing a polarizer for your lens. What you are trying to do requires a fair bit of skill, and shooting glass is no walk in the park. But purchasing a polarizer is the first suggestion I would make - it will let you have more control over the reflections and in some cases, will cause certain highlights to not blow out. Beyond that, it's pretty hard for me to help without seeing the actual images. Good luck! Feel free to check our our blog, which has more tips and tricks with shooting 360 views of products. You're right, it definitely helps. Any DSLR with around 8 to 10MP and up will do a pretty darn good job. On eBay I've seen a few used ones in pretty decent shape go for around $200 with the kit lens included. The nice lenses, however, can get pretty pricey!
