Thank you for this discovery, but what a shame this comment, on the music, towards the end, while the work continues, in the background !

A wonderful example of neo-classical/post modernist writing. He creates colour. He creates atmosphere. I just hope the 10th is around the corner, he mustn't fall into that 9th symphony club.

HESPERIDE for Cello and Piano (Orphaeide I.) - One might find in HESPERIDE several compositional ingredients that can send to the area of legendary nymphs: a strand of flow, a resonance of nostalgia that defines a special place in the world of symbols (…the garden with the tree that makes golden fruits...), a pendulum between fluent melodic and truncation at the cell level, as well as the meaning of graceful found in ornamental formulas(…). Carmen Maria Cârneci

Oh, Thorsten, I've no words to thank you!! I'm so happy to listen to a new Niculescu, even more in such a fiery interpretation!!

Merci beaucoup, cher Didier! A toi et aux tiens aussi une bonne année avec santé, joie et beaucoup de musique! Quant à l'"Andante religioso", j'en connais la version originale, mais je préfère de loin cet arrangement pour orgue seul, qui me semble beaucoup plus concentré.

REm-Concerto for Cello and Orchestra (1996, dedicated to Dan Cavassi). Why REm? It is an obsessive search of the lost tonic (RE) between the consistence of major, never classically figured, and the volatility of minor - a restless, ambiguous “landscape” that eventually freezes into a nostalgically colored perspective. Here is the whole text about my cello-concert, that was published în the booklet of the CD: Carmen Maria Carneci - Chamber Music: Like a magnet, the virtuous cello polarizes and scatters the tones into the orchestra, from which solo-instruments emerge and return into the tutti: an ever self-rebuilding whole sound, that comes from everywhere, moves in all directions, thus creating a complex live-like space feeling. An iridescent flickering heterophony, ornamented with old-like, maybe forgotten folklore patterns, alternates with the (middle) cadence of the soloist - a percussion accompanied cadence - and/or long stratified mélopées (in the final part). It is an obsessive search of the lost tonic (RE) between the consistence of major, never classically figured, and the volatility of minor - a restless, ambiguous “landscape” that eventually freezes into a nostalgically colored perspective.

Fine and compelling throughout. Weaving Romanian tradition with clever transposition. I've read the composers' notes and it "does what it says on the tin" A powerful Sextet.
