great backing trip and video.im planning my first backpacking trip in ocala national forest and i was wondering what your backpack weight is?
@spriggadventures9 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! I was using the Zpacks Arc Haul 55 liter pack which empty weighted about 20.5 oz. This was a shakedown hike for an upcoming Colorado Trail thru hike so I tried to mirror everything that I would be carrying on that 500 mile hike. The base weight which was everthing except food and water was 10.2 lbs . On this hike I carried 4 days of food and 4 liters of water. I knew that it would be hotter and concerned about good water sources along the way. After adding 8.8 lbs for water and the food I was carrying around 25 lbs. Here is a link to everything I had in my pack which included the cold weather gear that I would be using on the Colorado Trail. The Florida Trail in the Ocala National Forest is a great place to hike. Congrats on your upcoming trip and enjoy!

@@spriggadventures i was wondering what your backpack weighed full thanks
@spriggadventures9 ай бұрын
The total backpack weight on the 4 day Ocala hike was about 25 lbs including food and water. 8.8 lbs of that weight was the 4 liters of water. Normally, I would only carry 2 liters when there is ample water sources. @@srockguitar

This trail close in the fall And winter for Hunting?
@spriggadventures Жыл бұрын
None of the various Florida trails the we hiked closed for hunting season. We generally pack an orange vest with us and they generally have a schedule posted at the trailheads. Due to the temperatures we generally hike during the fall and winter in Florida. I hope this helps.

Whats the best time to avoid the crowds?
@spriggadventures2 жыл бұрын
We launched around 8:00am and it was already a little busy with boats. Really wasn’t bad crossing the channel early. If camping I would recommend going as far north as allowed to stay away from the day crowd. At that time they seemed to stay on the south side of the island. When we returned the next day we crossed the channel around noon and again it was busy but not bad. I think the best time of year at least for camping would be on the winter/cooler days. Nice for camping and less crowds.
@TitusvilleEcoAdventures2 жыл бұрын
@@spriggadventures yeah I was thinking winter as well. Although I stayed out at DeSoto in my RV one night during winter a few years back and my God that night the wind was howling. It howled all night. I would wake up all thru the night and wonder if i should get everyone up and get the heck out of there it was so bad.

"It's day all day in the day-time, And there is no night in Creede." from the poem "Creede" by Cy Warman. He was writing about the old mining days when Creede was a really wild and wooly place full of colorful and dangerous characters. Presumably, it's more restful now.

When there is a big storm, is it hard to decide whether to be out in the open or under trees? Under a tree is not a good place to be during a storm either, right?

Kenosha Pass was named by a stagecoach driver for his home town in Wisconsin. The mountain range ahead has the evocative name of Mosquito Range. (cringe) Deadman Creek got its name from a battle between prospectors and renegades. So, authentic "wild west".
