These children were very lucky indeed to have the life style they were born into. During the late 40s and early 50s there existed in Britain abject poverty this piece of footage however, is a good primary source.

Thanks for the upload Steve. The skier and train are in the Teign estuary. The loco is a Warshop class which were introduced from 1958, though most were built 1959- 62. Yellow nose end panels started in 1962. Maroon was the coach colour from 1956 to approx 1967. The WR choc and cream was used in a similar time period. My guess is this was 90% chance of being shot between 1959 and 1963.

Its Christmas Day Morning and Im back for a second viewing. Lovely video thank you both. So many memories so many changes. .Im 69 sat in Morecambe grinning and smiling and at times laughing out loud. The sad part was the 'No Swimming' sign on the 'Mayflower Steps'. When we were kids we wus Coxside kids, still are deep down. We would walk down to the pier-head dive in swim across the harbour mouth to the 'Barbican' and have a swim at the steps dodging the .Belle Ferries' as they came and went. Now 'No Swimming' but time is playing tricks because I'm there swimming got to smile.Thank you Mr-Mrs Johnson Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year To All.

I was in the woods today with my young lad and found some extensive ruins including some tunnel like wall cavities! At the time, I assumed it was the manor? Any idea what it was I found between where you were and coypool ?!

Lots of dresses that the wearers (or other family members) had made for these occasions. As for the cars, every colour available... as long as it was black. Wonderful documentary footage from a time I remember, with life getting back to normal after the second world war. Just imagine the sense of freedom, peace and prosperity that these people were enjoying after years of hardship and heartbreak. Thank you.

Maybe for some, but the norm would be for a middle class lady to go to a dressmaker in those days, particularly for formal wear. And a lady was rarely out without a hat.. it was a family story that my sister arrived so quickly that she was delivered by my uncle (a surgeon!) in our front room while waiting for the ambulance to arrive. My mother wore a hat throughout the proceedings!

Loved this. What is stand out for me is the total lack of any overweight people compared to today.
Your right, mom never worked even though times were hard so we ate balanced meals off smaller plates and we spent a lot if times outdoors.

Plymouth was a well kept city once. We used to go shopping there in the 60's and 70's. When we arrived our first thought was to fill our fat faces with food. We either went to the cafe on the top floor of Dingles ( I think it was called Circles) or a beautiful cafe/patisserie on Mayflower Street called 'Le Crok-en-Bouche'. It was family run, and it was lovely. I looked on Google Street View and little while ago and it's all derelict now, like a lot of our towns, so sad.

Hi Steve. Glad you mentioned our friend Dave Mills on here. I attended his wedding in Kingsbridge years ago. I had written a long speel and the video finished and it was all wiped away. Basically - Oakden's Garage - the owners were friends of our family and we'd often stop off on the way back to Keyham. We'd go upstairs to Phil & Mac Pike's place. - I think Mac was her nickname. Great people - this was in the 1950s and I think Phil's son took over

Long gone are colourful flower beds, in parks and public areas. Its all paved areas with a few boxes filled with so called easy maintenance planting (mostly weeds). Plymouth is a shadow of its former self regardless of regeneration. Royal Parade is an absolute eyesore.
