Montavue has the appearance of a highly professional company, but their stuff is shoddy. I purchased an entire system NVR, 4 IP Cameras, and Doorbell. $1400. It was a complete waste of money. The entire system was difficult and fell short of my expectations. I hired Denver Security LLC to install it and the poor fellow spent hours running the IP cables and setting it up. - Doorbell is difficult to setup. This was the early version. You needed a google account or something and it only worked occasionally. It went offline and I spent hours, called support by phone and one day randomly someone answered. They have NO videos, no tips and tricks. No installation instructions. The rep told me to delete the setup on the phone because it was the problem. We got it working. He said they were developing a newer doorball camera that wasn't problematic and difficult. - NVR software is no frills, playing back a video is crazy. It will take you hours to find the footage. The application freezes up during playback and you have to start the whole search over again. I spent hours just trying to play back a few minutes of footage from a week before. - The Montvue PC application launches a GUI that has very small font, so small you can't read it! You need a magnifying glass to read it, it won't Zoom in at all. The setup is not intuitive, annoying, and you'll find yourself clicking and logging in over and over again. It's a very poorly thought out interface. My impression is that they paid someone to build it and then cut it off once they got some functionality working. -The software applications are severely lacking in useability. Some of it is silly, and most of it is annoying.

How do I define preset images? The video only shows how to pull them up (flag numbers), once defined.

If you're using 3rd party cameras they probably won't work on our app. This tutorial is geared towards Montavue cameras so this walkthrough setup might not work on all cameras.

The original MontavueGO app is just the older version. This video was made before MontavueGO 2.0 was released but the 2.0 is the latest version which is the one you should have downloaded. If you have the original MontavueGO on your device, you can delete it to clear space.

I'm not entirely sure on that one. I'd assume it would be similar if not the same for those applications. Unfortunately, I had to Google what those were when I read this comment, so my knowledge on that software is basically zero.

I'd like to have the snapshots continue going into the "Message" bucket, but disable these from appearing in my phone's notifications bar. It's not clear to me how to do this. Is this done via the "Multi-channel Alarm Subscription", or the "Disable Alarm Linkage"? Or maybe somewhere else? Thanks :) !

You would actually want to disable notifications from the phone's own notification menu. Your snapshots and triggers will be stored in the messages section of Montavue still, but if you disable them on your phone settings, then it won't pop up as a notification.

My app during playback if I stop on say 17:56 it always starts playback 2 hours behind and would be 15:56. So in order to view 17:56 I actually have to stop my drag bar during playback on 19:56. What's going on here? The app has been awful in this regard.

I've encountered that myself once before, the issue was the time on the camera was not synced with the time on the NVR. Look at your live view directly from your NVRs monitor, the cameras each should have their own time in white in the upper right corner of each square and the NVR will have the 'master time' in the upper right in the black rectangle. If these are different, that's probably why it's not working in playback on the app. Fix this by going to the main menu on your NVR then select 'system' and go to 'date and time'. There is an option on this page for 'sync cam time'. If it's grey, activate it and hit apply. If it's blue, deactivate it, hit apply, then activate it again and hit apply. This will refresh your times and sync everything from that moment on. Keep in mind your footage from before fixing the time will still have the 2 hour difference but all the footage recorded after will pinpoint to the exact time when selected. Power outages are sometimes responsible for the times being off, it happens rarely but it happens.

Hey i know this is a basic question, but i cannot find the answer anywhere and it is going to be awkward to run a HDMI to where i want it so need to make sure it works if i do. I wondered if you can help. I want to connect my reolink nvr to 1 tv via HDMI. Can i control what camera is viewed from the TV via the TV remote, or would i have to have a mouse connected to the NVR to change the camera viewed etc? Thanks

Unfortunately, you will have to change cameras via the mouse. You could always try a wireless mouse, those work with Montavue systems, not sure about Reolink.

You should not have to umount a camera for a firmware update, updates are all done through the software of the camera which means it needs to be plugged in and operational. Montavue wifi cameras update through the MontavueGO app, however, if you have a non-Montavue camera I have to refer you to the manufacturer for that question. If your camera is operating normally, I wouldn't worry about updating it.

I have a Reolink RLK8-812B4-A NVR. Does this work with this NVR? I cant find information on the reolink Website about the Pro?

Can't say for sure since it's Reolink. I'd say attempt it and find out. I would assume a "Pro" model should be able to do two screens. Unlike Reolink, we do have this information for our NVRs on our website, so let us know if you feel like switching teams, our tech support and information are always available. Use both HDMI inputs for best results. Make sure you connect the monitor you intend to use as your 'main screen' to HMDI 1. Your sub-screen should go into HDMI 2.

Do you have any tips for downloading the desktop app on a chromebook? It keeps telling me to use the chrome web store to find an extension that can run the file type but I have no idea what to download. I have the Montavue GO app but its optimized specifically for phones so the picture is much smaller than I'd like. Any feedback would be very much appreciated, thanks!

Sounds like the chromebook operates more like a tablet than a computer which might prevent it from running the program. We do have a tablet version out there that should be available, however, it may be that you're somewhere in between. I've run the phone version on a tablet before and it should have full screen access for the app and adapt to the screen size so I'm not sure what's goin' on there. We don't have a Chromebook on hand in the office but if you call into tech support we can work with you on solutions. The tech guys are all IT pros, so it might take a minute but they'll likely find a workaround. Our number is 888-508-3110

I have done the preset working well in hikvision ptz but it doesn't return panning after manual pan from remote view

Hikvision PTZ might be different but it's likely you have to log into the camera itself and change PTZ commands so that your camera returns back to its patrol mode after X amount of minutes of inactivity. Our Montavue cameras have that function but I'm not sure Hikvision PTZs would or how to access those options.

I just receive my doorbell. It comes with a chime kit. Do we need that one? If so where to connect it? In this video it dosent say anything anout that chime kit.

You only need the chime kit if you have a mechanical chime installed in your house already and wish to have that activated when someone rings the doorbell cam.

This video is a bit older so the newer models of NVR might have changed UI since then. It might be called "custom layout" when in the display section. Once you create a custom layout, it will appear as an option from your right click menu in your live view under live layout.

It's possible you have newer firmware (this video is getting older) so it likely says "live layout" instead. If it's still giving you trouble, call our tech support, they can get you situated in no time.

Currently, Montavue has one wireless doorbell camera which works with all of our NVR models. If you're looking to add a 3rd party doorbell cam, you should be able to do that as well since we make our NVRs as compatible as possible with other products.

I would recommend calling tech support. It's likely an issue specifically with your phone if you're not getting any notifications. That means it's probably an easy fix too. Call us at 888-508-3110

We have a wireless bridge that can go 1.8 miles wirelessly from bridge to bridge. The trick is that it has to have line of sight with both devices so it gets complicated if you don't have a tall structure to attach to. If you could purchase a 3rd party solar power unit (we don't sell those unfortunately) that had 2 standard outlets and could output enough power for the bridge and camera to run simultaneously 24/7, you could concievably achieve this. Once you have the device powered on, you use a combination of the Montavue GO app on your smartphone or tablet and the camera's wireless to sync it to your home network's wireless router. You can check out our doorbell tutorial, the connection process to the app is pretty much the exact same if you want a better idea of how it works.

Are you using a 16 channel NVR? I’m using a Dahua 16 channel NVR and it won’t let me do a custom layout for 16 cameras.

In this particular video, I'm using an 8 channel NVR, however, the process should be the same on a 16 or 32 channel system. Keep in mind this video is aged out slightly so there might be some things on your Dahua NVR that are different.

If it's on a PoE switch you should be able to stream it no matter what. This enables you to have the camera on your network, add it to your NVR, and Livestream it to KZbin simultaneously.

When the system starts for the first time, it asks for an admin password to be set for the NVR & cameras. Once you add your security system to your mobile device on MontavueGO it will require not only this password but the serial number for your NVR. The only people able to listen in or use the cameras in any way would have to know this password and the serial number and have your device added to their MontavueGO app on their phone. The BIG mistake people make is letting their installer set this password during installation. Be present when they are doing the final setup with the screen and NVR. Some installers will have a password they will enter just to get the system going so they can check camera angles while setting up, this is normal and reasonable, but if this is the case, just make sure you do a password change when they leave. You can always call us to walk you through it if you want to leave your installer out of the password process.

It'd be awesome if ya'll made an updated video for the current version of MontavueGo. I'm tried of having to download a hour when I only need 2 minutes, and then having to open the video up in Avidemux just to clip it down.

Exporting the footage for the PC/Mac version should still look just like how it does in this video. The default time is an hour but there should be a red line on each end of the hour long clip that allow you to shrink the clip to a smaller custom size, the trick is that you need to have an hour or more pulled up on the playback or else the red lines don't show up because they are "off screen." Give us a call at tech support and we can identify any issues and get you sorted out if that advice doesn't help.
