At 2:21 you said to use the "blade" to clean the mantle/wick. Where do I buy that wick cleaner/razor

I like that little Aladdin lamp. What is it called and the color? I have a shade that would go on that nicely. Good video. I will watch again when I get to the point of lighting up a lamp for the first time. I just bought a beehive but no wick or mantle yet.

When you slowly raise the wick after lighting, should the entire flame turn blue at the same exact time? What I'm seeing is, the flame starts out all yellow, but when I start to raise the wick, the blue flame spreads around the wick and the yellow section (near the raiser knob) gets smaller, before it all turns blue . Is this normal or does it mean the wick is uneven or an air leak? Thanks.

I’m having that happen too.

@@melindaunknown6411 Thanks for letting me know! Maybe it's almost considered normal. My other Aladdin does this as well..

You can char & clean that wick as much as you like. That will not stop it burning on one side. That's an Air leak. Also charring should be done with the flame spreader installed. Cheers

How do you find and deal with an air leak?
@Kerosenecanada3 жыл бұрын
@@quickcalsgarage4782 Take the burner apart. remove the wick. Check the clearance between the outer wick tube and the inner. Must be even. If old wick, replace. Get the lamp running. If it still air leaking, replace the outer wick tube. If still leaking then the gallery should be changed. You really need spare parts to intechange.

I have an Aladdin lamp that’s never been used and wonder how the mantle should be lit the first time to eliminate the blue coating. Is it like the old Coleman mantles where you light them once to “season” the mantle prior to using it the first time? Or do just let the wick burn off the blue coating when you light the wick?

If any one knows , how far is the burn down on a wick ? The wick setting only goes up and down so far . After its burnt down then what ? Can the lift clips be re set lower on the wick ?

Hello Thanks for the interesting video. One of the best I have seen relating to reduction of the yellow flame spikes. I have 3 burners, all B models and the flame spreader just drops in freely. Is this common on all B burners. I have read that some flame spreaders can be adjusted for height. Maybe this applies to the newer models?? Finally, I have been using the plastic Aladdin wick trimmer with mixed results. I notice you have a METAL trimmer. Are these better to use? I noticed your trimmer seems to seat on the outer wick tube also, then you just add pressure from the wick raiser. Maybe a better/stable trim using the trimmer with the "foot". Appreciate any comments. Thanks.

Thanks! really enjoyed your video. I have a complete Model B and one that needs a gallery inner tube and flame spreader and am looking forward to learning more about these as well as collecting them

You show the older (Brazilian) mantles that come in the orange and blue box. I have been checking ebay for these and am also finding some even older mantles that are in a brown box and are called Welsbach mantles. Are you familiar with these? And are they even better than the Brazilian ones?
