When I was in college, every Friday's afternoon, during my "no-school" hours, I remember my best friend and I, sitting near the Loire River, seeing our lovely city along it, drinking cans of Guinness, listening to The Dubliners and Luke Kelly's songs... :) F*cking good old time. This one was one of my favourites. Thanks for this nostalgic moment. Will you cover "The Night Visiting Song " someday ?? :) Have a great and nice day Conor! Souvenir awakerman!

The song was originally performed by Scottish folk singer Isla Cameron on the BBC Radio Ballad "Song of a road"; written by Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger. It's in the section "Oh Well That's Just The Way It Is", where the subject is a Scottish worker going to work on the M1. Think of the line "he was signing on the bru", that nails it. The song also deliberately uses the tune of the Scottish folk song "Cam all ye tramps and hawkers." In other parts of the Radio Ballad, workers who came from other places to work on the M1 motorway have songs and interview excerpts about them. "Song of a road" was broadcast in 1959, the work of the core trio of Ewan MacColl, Peggy Seeger and Charles Parker (the producer), and was part of a series of BBC Radio Ballads they made that revolutionised the way that radio programmes were produced.
