You show this album was released in 1996. Wrong. This album was released in LATE 1999, which is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ERA than 1996. Believe me. I was there. I was 25 in ‘96, and 28 in ‘99. MUSIC WAS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT IN ‘99 than in ‘96. Things were moving FAST, as this song says.

The lyrics of this song are so unlike most "relationship" songs. She is literally telling her man to get out while he can because she's going to destroy his soul. I really love how she slowed down her pace at about the 3:15 mark and started singing like a bit of a crazy lover, slowly singing "fast as you can" over and over. She purposefully made her voice sound scary.

How many times do I have to say To get away, get gone? Flip your shit past another lass's Humble dwelling You got your game, made your shot And you got away with a lot But I'm not turned on So put away that meat you're selling 'Cause I do know what's good for me And I've done what I could for you But you're not benefiting And yet I'm sitting, singing again Sing, sing again How can I deal with this If he won't get with this? Am I gonna heal from this? He won't admit to it Nothing to figure out I gotta get him out It's time the truth goes out That he don't give a shit about me 'Cause I do know what's good for me And I've done what I could for you But you're not benefiting And yet I'm sitting, singing again Sing, sing again How can I deal with this If he won't get with this? Am I gonna heal from this? He won't admit to it Nothing to figure out I gotta get him out It's time the truth goes out That he don't give a shit about me How many times can it escalate 'Til it elevates to a place I can't breathe? And I must decide, if you must deride That I'm much obliged to up and go I'll idealize and realize that it's no sacrifice Because the price is paid And there's nothing left to grieve Fucking go 'Cause I've done what I could for you And I do know what's good for me And I'm not benefiting Instead I'm sitting Singing again, singing again, singing again Sing, sing, sing again How can I deal with this If he won't get with this? Am I gonna heal from this? He won't admit to it Nothing to figure out I gotta get him out It's time the truth goes out That he don't give a shit about me How can I deal with this If he won't get with this? Am I gonna heal from this? He won't admit to it Nothing to figure out I gotta get him out It's time the truth goes out That he don't give a shit about me Traduire en français

Decidedly NOT pretty music, but FANTASTIC art. The lyric crafting in this song alone, not to mention the rest of her albums and songs, is next level. I fear that as time goes on, especially in 2023, the contrast is day and night depressing. Everything has become a barely-concealed shopping-list of brands, or only slightly better- very pale and contrived descriptions of a paltry human experience. I wish Fiona and her compatriots of the era were better praised for the validity and authenticity of their craft- if anything it's only become MORE relevant than it already was in the *best* of all decades (at least musically)- the 90's. I <3 you Fiona. You were tragically underappreciated.
