That fix is part of the action replay patch, it you installed the AR code patch correctly and it still isn't working I'm not sure... I recommend using the Dolphin method of playing this mod as I wasn't able to fully test the console version and had to leave some features out like improved textures and hidden cheats.

@aleckermit that is cool if true. It still doesn't explain why they will have their own version of some games. Personally that gives me no reason to buy the hardware when compared to an Analogue Pocket or any other FPGA based system.

As someone who owns both the Analogue Pocket and the FPGBC, I ordered two Chromatics. Maybe I have a problem, but I like what Modretro is doing. The screen is a huge selling point for me.

I'd argue that the second generation of FBGBC will all be made of plastic and other inferior materials. Mine is on the way.

@ i have an Epilogue GB Operator, i can rip any rom from any cartridge and write roms to writeable cartridges, which it turns out incube8 cartridges are so its all good

And? The manufacturing cost is like $20 for that. Average price of magnesium per pound is about $2-6. If you’re paying $160 for a metal shell, you’re not paying for the product, but paying for the company’s CNC machine. I bought an ambernic metal shelled system for $130 total. So if you’re paying $160 for a metal shell alone, then you’re a fool.

Also it’s a magnesium alloy. They probably threw in some aluminum and zinc to keep costs down. Die casting can be more expensive than thixomolded alloys for mass production. Which these systems use thixomolded alloys.

@@yost112ty $160 is for the boxy pixel kit without a donor pcb or battery lol So yeah 30 for the shell, then you have the sapphire lens, custom screen, and physical copy of Tetris. It’s not a bad value for $200.

It uses 3x AA batteries. If they recharge I didn’t know, nothing on the site states that they do, but rechargeable AA batteries are junk over time. God knows how much power this thing devours too. Adding Tetris isnt a selling point and it shouldn’t be. I can play Tetris on about anything. It’s one of the most common games. The screen size for this is literally the same size as the standard GBC 144x160. You can buy the “special” fpga screens for cheap. I installed one on a regular gbc for around $40. There is nothing special about this system. It’s pretty much a 1:1 copy of a gbc with a pretty sapphire screen and connectivity to pc. Analogue cost $50 more for a limited color shell. Even cheaper the standard color shell version. With analogue you’re not limited to just gb and gbc. They’re not a 1:1. They have a custom screen that larger than the standard, Chargeable battery, you can connect to the tv to play. It’s got everything the chromatic has but more and better.

Yeah, I do think the chromatic is nicely priced. But I also think that video output on one of these handhelds is a very Niche feature that most people won't see the need for when things like emulators and the GB operator exist for obtaining footage. I also think that most people in the market for a Game Boy handheld are not willing to go back to the original tiny GBC screen now that we have things like OLED replacement displays.

@@aleckermit I agree. I got an analogue pocket as I think this has the highest utility and the best display, even though it has a very hefty price.

My Analogue Pocket was $220 with a 20 dollar delivery fee. Very worth it.

Isnt that a Emulator Retro Handheld? That's far unfair comparison since it can do lots of things that a chromatic cant do and bit of analogue pocket.

thats exactly the reason why it sucks and they are prob paying ytbers to give nice reviews .. cause youre paying for the ratio and the screen almost literally... and the analogue reads more cartridges and has the same ratio and aspect and deff as the chromatic just needs to be set up... its just a waste of money and time tbh

I think a better comparison is an original game boy color with a new IPS/OLED screen which can be had for about the same or less than the Chromatic. You have to ask yourself whether super durability and video output are worth it to you. The FPGBC is made of cheap components but I've had no issues with them so far and the ability to replace individual parts (like the shell) cheaply if they break is nice. FPGBC has a battery life of 4 hours which I find plenty amd you can play while charging.
