Excellent! My late husband was diagnosed in 2000 with non small cell lung cancer and managed to live 21 years with the use of conventional treatment (chemo, surgery, radiation). I had pushed for immunotherapy but our doctors said it was not available to him. I often wonder if I had fought harder for him to get the doctors to agree to immunotherapy what outcome we would have had. He died actually as a result of all of the treatments…they really damaged his body. He was cancer free at death. 😢

I think there is an innate immune response much quicker than this adaptive immune response on viruses. Also, the invaded epithelial cells are already damaged, and the burst should be including millions of viruses. Adaptive immune response against viruses like SARS Cov-II are too slow too reactive. Innate immune cells are the only quick helpers against viruses, in my opinion.

When you say high-grade glioma, do you mean GBM or Something ?
@CancerResearchInstitute2 ай бұрын
Hi, there are several types of brain cancer, classified by the type of cell from which they originate, including astrocytomas, gliomas, and meningiomas. Glioma originates in glial cells that support and protect neurons. Glioblastoma (GBM), which forms from astrocytes, is the most dangerous and aggressive form of brain cancer. Cuanto tiempo dura el tratamiento?
@CancerResearchInstitute2 ай бұрын

Excellent discussion of cancer immunotherapy. Looking forward to the continued research and development of targeted and immunotherapies. We also need to emphasize prevention and early detection as part of our collective health care goals. As a semi-retired radiation oncologist, I have witnessed remarkable responses in my own patients who received targeted therapies and/or immunotherapies. As a patient, the prospect of vaccines to treat cancers holds hope for many of us. GJBrownDO 5/24/2024 06:05 Pacific

I was diagnosed stage 4 Dec. 2020. Started Opdivo and Yervoy. After the second session I had the worst autoimmune response oncologist had ever seen. Ended up in the ER where i almost died. Even though my cancer is in remission I would not do immunotherapy again. Spent months in the hospital and rehab. Went from 207 to 136lbs. Im still battling complications from my experience. Bad anemia and needing iron infusions, lost a section of my intestines and was on a bag for a year. So be warned if you choose this treatment the side effects can be severe and possibly fatal. Its not all smiles and laughing like in the commercials.

As a person that has been receiving Opdive and Yervoy for the last 6 months and having also had serious side effects I am still glad that I have not had traditional Chemo and Radiation or surgery. The bottom line is Cancer is a very deadly disease and no matter what treatment very few people with stage 3 or 4 cancer escapes significant negative side effects from the treatment that is used to try to stop the cancers spread and growth.

I too am a cancer survivor from 3 different cancers. I have a genetic cancer syndrome. I was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 31-the same cancer killed my mom at 29 when I was only 9 weeks old. They were watching me from the age of 28 and we didn't know it was cancer until the pathology came back-thankfully, stage 1. I've had thyroid cancer at 19 and many precancerous tumor in between surgeries. Keep rockin!!

Mukherjee, S. (2022). The Song of the Cell: An Exploration of Medicine and the New Human. Scribner. From the ebook (pg 13-17): "... Emily was Patient No. 7, treated at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Nearly everyone in the audience knew her or knew of her: she had altered the history of cellular therapy. In May 2010, Emily had been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Among the most rapidly progressive forms of cancer, this leukemia tends to afflict young children. The treatment for ALL ranks among the most intensive chemo regimens ever devised: seven or eight drugs given in combination, some injected directly into the spinal fluid to kill any cancer cells hiding in the brain and spine. Although the collateral damage of the treatment-permanent numbness in the fingers and toes, brain damage, stunted growth and life-threatening infections, to name just a few-can be daunting, the treatment cures about 90 percent of pediatric patients. Unfortunately, Emily’s cancer fell in the remnant 10 percent, proving unresponsive to standard therapy. She relapsed sixteen months into treatment. She was listed for a bone marrow transplant-the only option for a cure-but her condition worsened while she awaited a suitable donor. “The doctors told me not to Google” her chances of survival, Emily’s mother, Kari, told me. “So, of course, I did that right away.” What Kari found on the web was chilling: of the children who relapse early, or relapse twice, almost none survive. : : : The deft management of Emily’s condition-and her startling recovery-saved the field of cell therapy. Emily Whitehead remains in that deep remission to this day. No cancer is detectable in her marrow or her blood. She is considered cured." Rejoice.
