*SPOILER* This is the best season of the Countries Marble Race World Cup. No, it's not because I'm a filthy nationalist. It's because the mystique of winning it was set in stone through the events that transpired. Up to this point, none of the previous winners had truly threatened to repeat as champions. Maybe you could argue Brazil in Season 7, but they fell apart in the final. This time, though? Germany, the champions of Season 2, had been a non-factor in the five seasons after, but this season was different. They fought with ferocity and tenacity, overcoming the odds to make it all the way to the final, and they would make a run at history by staying in the top 2 basically the whole way. Standing in their way was a nation that had long been on the cusp of contention, a nation that had made the semifinals multiple times but was only now making their first appearance in the final, a nation on a run of destiny. Okay, I lied, Season 8 is my favorite in no small part because of Canada's performance. Our marble had been mired in the pack for seven seasons, never being able to break through and coming up short in heartbreaking fashion multiple times, and now the cycle had been broken. It wasn't just that the Canadian marble made it all the way to the final, it was that they did it CONVINCINGLY, controlling the flow of the races and never allowing luck to become a major factor in their pursuit of glory. In said final, it was clear that Canada and Germany were going to stand on the podium from the word go, and it was a thrilling battle all the way to the end. As they raced towards the finish hole, it was almost as if time was standing still, especially when they collided in the bowl. In the end, Canada had the better angle and beat out Germany for our first gold medal. The Germans had come within touching distance of a second championship only to let it slip away, and the mystical aura surrounding the gold medal was confirmed. The Philippines would drop right after for bronze, a footnote to the dramatic nature of the battle for gold. Yes, my country won, but we won by fighting hard and beating the best.

*SPOILER* This is when the mystique of the Countries Marble Race World Cup begins to shine. The idea that it's nearly impossible to win it multiple times. Brazil made it all the way to the final with a chance to go back-to-back, but they came up short. Japan would take home gold to improve on their silver from Season 6, the best two-season run any country has ever had in this event and the closest we've ever been to a back-to-back champion. Spain and the United Kingdom would hit us with some deja vu by winning silver and bronze respectively, mirroring their Season 5 finishes. If this is the beginning of the mystique, then the next season is when it becomes unmistakable.

*SPOILER* Brazil's first of two gold medals came in this season, but not without adversity as Japan nearly made the impossible comeback in the final, settling for silver. New Zealand would round out the podium. This is an unusual track for the series, as it's a flat point-to-point race, as opposed to a downhill gravity sprint or a circuit.

*SPOILER* After three seasons of doing laps around a circuit, we go back to the downhill sprint. The United States winning gold feels to me like an atonement for their failure from the previous season. This makes the Americans the first to win medals in consecutive seasons. Spain and the United Kingdom would also claim their first medals in this season. Going back to see the big players begin their legacies is quite surreal.

*SPOILER* Man, this figure-eight course was brutal. The big bollard at turn 3 was an absolute nightmare, and it would literally decide the winner of the season. I'm not going to mince words here, the United States absolutely choked the gold away. The Americans were way out in front of France and Israel, but they got a horrible bounce and stalled, falling to bronze while France took home gold and Israel got silver.

*SPOILER* This season feels like a continuation from Season 2. Still a 40 marble field, still a three-lap race around a circuit. Space Trooper was already well-established as the soundtrack for the final round, and there's a sort of completeness that comes from hearing it at the end. For some reason, I always forget that Australia won gold this season, beating South Korea to do it. Japan also took home bronze, a sort of prologue to their later success.

THAILAND NO.1
@tylerlarsen18425 күн бұрын
*SPOILERS* Oh boy, the first season where the track was a circuit, and the one where the bloody bollards would begin causing major havoc. The field expanded to 40, and many would have run-ins with the obstacles throughout the event. This season's final was very interesting. Argentina managed to pull off the inexplicable feat of making two consecutive final rounds without taking home a medal in either of them, Norway would take home bronze, and we got a legendary photo finish that has rarely been matched. Germany and Thailand went at each other the whole way, with the Germans taking home gold by the skin of their teeth. This is even more heartbreaking for the Thais when you realize that this was the closest they ever got to winning it all, and it only gets more painful the longer they go without gold. If it had gone Thailand's way, it would've been even more heartbreaking for Germany in hindsight, especially considering the outcome of Season 8.

*SPOILER* Coming back to the first season knowing how far it has come is quite surreal. It's quite interesting to see how 35 videos of hindsight will shape the narrative of these early championships. Only 32 countries competed, and many of them have become highly decorated. I was shocked to see that Ecuador was an OG, and it puts Season 35 into an even more dramatic context knowing that. With what we know today, the Group of Death from the first round was definitely Group C, which is interesting because it would produce the very first champion. The Quarterfinal of Death was QF 3 without a doubt. Argentina would begin their run of making the final every so often only to not make the podium that went on for a while, the United States were very hard to eliminate from the start, and Italy would take home gold quite comfortably despite a very treacherous path. Meanwhile, France and South Korea fought ferociously all the way to the ending funnel, where France absolutely robbed the silver medal and left the Koreans with bronze. It would only be the beginning for those two, and Italy, despite making the podium three times since, still seeks a second gold to day.

*SPOILER* My beloved Canadian marble was so close! All the way to the final with the leaders mere feet away at the finish! Oh well, next season! GG to Brazil for breaking the fourth place deadlock on the medal table with bronze, and huge congratulations to Ecuador and Peru for their first ever medals! Their respective paths to gold and silver were very treacherous. Ecuador was in Group D with Canada and France, two of the best countries in this series, and they eventually had to contend with the United States, Greece, and Germany, just to get to the final. Peru might've had it even worse, as they started in Group F with South Korea, the number one country on the medal table, and they eventually had to get past the United Kingdom, Brazil, Italy, and Argentina, to qualify for the final. Speaking of which, South Korea, Canada, AND Brazil all made it there, meaning that Ecuador and Peru had to outright beat three of the top five countries on the medal table to secure their medals! They earned their podium spots against the very best, and this could be the potential starting point for a run of dominance by either country after going this long without medals.
