Fun fact: the reason for the "fox symbol" instead of the traditional "devil horns" is that the girls never heard heavy metal before and genuinly thought that was the sign. Their producer just went with it and build up a whole lore around "the Fox God". Also, one of the primary complaints about Babymetal (especially during the early years when they became internationally known) was that the girls didn't actually know metal and were just idols. This complaint was actually valid during their first years, until they performed at a festival in Osaka (in 2013). They were wearing shirts which had the Babymetal logo in the Metallica font and one of the members of Metallica saw them and was curious. He invited the girls to their performance and this was the epiphany the girls needed. Su-Metal said she finally understood metal after seeing them play live.

Babymetal has a big variety of style with their songs. Shanti Shanti has a Indian feel to it. Kagerou is a groove metal song, BMC has a rap feel, Papaya features a rapper from Thailand,.. so expect big differences between each songs style. One of the great things about Japanese heavy metal is theybdont stay in a defined box. They're always willing to mix different genres together.

Great review and analysis! I have only tried my best to understand the meaning through the lens of an Asian-American. Good to hear the explanations of the cultural nuances that a translation cannot portray! I often feel that Babymetal’s lyrics as are very intelligently composed, but that. feel can be lost in translation. I would love to see your analysis of their song BxMxC! 🤘🦊

Thank you for all the cultural insite. I really enjoyed it 🙂 This is one of very few videos BabyMetal has commented on publicly. They released a commentary track years ago. You may enjoy watching it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2jQo6WMZ6Zsa8U They have recently performed this song at a lot of concerts. Here is a very special one from 2023 kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIe1aKGud998jqc I also second the suggestion of Megitsune as your next video. Normally I would suggest watching it live, but I really want to hear how you interpret the video, as it carries a lot of the lore surrounding BabyMetal.

This is the song that started it all. Song #1 in 2010. 2024 Legend MM concert is the latest large Japanese concert. Of course, Yuimetal left in 2018, and Momometal was named her successor in 2023. You can see the evolution of the song. Another is, "iine" that came out after Doki Doki. We appreciate the Japanese perspective of these wonderful Japanese ladies (Babymetal).
Nice reaction, you should check the dance version video 🤘😁

Ima nanji? This is BABYMETAL's FIRST music video, released on KZbin on November 8, 2012 but it was actually recorded almost a year earlier (October 2011) when Su-metal was 13 years old, and both Yuimetal and Moametal were 11 years old. And the saga begins!!! Keep rockin’ BABYMETAL!!! KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘

I just found this after seeing your reaction without the music video and had mentioned if you could use their videos. wish on it and.....here it is. they CAN come true. lol

Confusing? Heavy metal fans hate idol music, for fans of idol music heavy metal is just noise, by all logic their first song - this one - should had been their last... Thankfully not everything works by logic.

I've watched almost every reaction to every BabyMetal song ( not quite but...) and this is the first time I've actually gotten some real background as to what is really going on from someone that seems to know. I loved it and greatly appreciate the info you've given to someone who has seen and heard so many variations of Japanese culture. I love the music BabyMetal and has piqued my interest in the culture and this has been the clearest view so far. lol Subscribing and hoping you can add the videos to the songs as well as hoping to learn more on Japanese culture even if its through you and BabyMetal's music.

There is a general saying that "Live Babymetal is Best Babymetal." Their live shows in Japan are usually fantastic. (..although I do like the "Karate" video in addition to the live performances - as an exception.) Long time Babymetal fans can direct you better than I as to which versions / videos to watch. :) Nice reaction and review.

They recorded this early on in Sakura Gakuin. It was their very first song as members of the heavy music club, one of sub units. That was late October 2010 (Su was 12, Yui and Moa both 11) and the video was recorded nearly a year later in 2011. They do have a song with Ultraman references - 'Meta Taro'. There is a very good live performance version from Legend MM in March 2024 (Momometal's 21st birthday concert).

Nice reaction. They recorded this early on after the Idol group Sakura Gakuin was set up by Amuse talent agency. It was their first song as the heavy music sub-unit, recorded October 2010 (Su was 12, Yui and Moa both 11) and the video was recorded nearly a year later in 2011.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 💓 ⏰ Their choreographer is MIKIKO, who is also the choreographer and stage director for the group Perfume. The Perfume members are like their "older sisters" at Amuse, Inc., their parent company. 'Doki Doki ☆ Morning' was their first single, music video, etc. Like a lot of classic Metal songs, the lyrics talk about which cute hairstyle and lip gloss they should decide on for school. : ) It was this video blowing up on social media that helped BABYMETAL start to go viral, especially outside of Japan. The DVD single was released in October of 2011. Suzuka was thirteen, Yui and Moa were twelve. They recorded it a year before that. At this point, BABYMETAL was the "Heavy Music Club" subunit of the school themed idol group Sakura Gakuin.

Also her profile says she is in NYC, she is similar to Mikiko who also came to NYC And NYC was also the first city Babymetal came to in the US ? (was that when they visited Ted Jensen for mastering Budokan shows and I guess they did the photo shoots with Dana Distortion?)

Wonderful reaction. Like I said in your last reaction to BM, it's not often we get a Japanese perspective on the group. Thank you. As someone else has mentioned, Babymetal began as the subunit Heavy Music Club of the idol group Sakura Gakuin consisting of Amuse Talent Agency's best talent. Please react to Verishuvi by Sakura Gakuin!

The girls were part of 'Sakura Gakuin' when they formed. But they were very young about 12 I think and Su Metal (Lead Singer) was about 14 or 15 and had either just Graduated from Sakura Gakuin or was soon to graduate. Sakura Gakuin was set up like a school in Japan, but wasn't a real school. I recommend the KZbin video called "the helpful guide to Babymetal." kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3rFY6t7qc2Xicksi=HofzTxQWQvPrMktB

Yay! They were 13/12 when the MV released ~1 year after original live debut of the song. And yeah, it’s an absolute Kawaii Attack! 😂 You should check out their live from Yokohama Arena (Legend MM, Mar 2024). Lead Su-metal is 26, Moa is 24, and it was new 3rd member Momoko’s 21st BDay show. I just saw them live a few weeks ago in the US, and they are absolutely amazing! 🤘🦊
