Its just water in sand/silt/sediment/ When you agitate it with your foot, you displace that water, creating a powerful vacuum. You take the place of that water and unless more water, or air, comes in to replace you, you're staying there!

The only thing you've gotta watch out for with an open shelter like that is the Ticks, I had a lucky escape after being bit by a tick in Scotland, luckily after all the tests I didn't have Lyme Disease, since then in areas well known for ticks I use an enclosed pop up tent just to help keep them out and always keep the door shut as much as possible, I do love to get a fire going and cook food out there though as cooking it at home is kinda cheating, even more fun to catch or forage for the food too and have a beer then get in the tent and close my eyes shutting the world out creating a barrier with my eye lids :D

Foraging has become akin to decentralised trawling of the forests. The lake district forests are barren anywhere near a path now

That very small size cep is known as a bouchon! It's what fetches the top prices!🏴☠️👍

Actually, it is what should be called "hands off", not to be picked, as it too small... It is not responsible/sustainable foraging picking ceps that size.

Thixotropic is the word. Step into it and you push the water out of the interstitial spaces, between the solids. After which, you are trapped in a concrete - like medium that takes extreme effort to get out of. Simply put, keep away from it. On a fast rising tide, it could end your life! You don't fool around with nature! She will kill you!

At 3:49 he says: "It gets bigger as you play around with it"! I hope he means the quicksand, lol 😆.

It’s missing the ring which is always possible with A. Phalloides. As others have said the striations on the cap indicate it’s a different amanita species. The volva is pronounced enough to where I would guess calyptroderma where the patch just didn’t stay on top. Personally I’d pass on this one 😂
@jerichojoe3072 жыл бұрын
They've already proven that you cannot completely sink in quicksand because of its density related to your density that it would be a physically impossible to completely be swallowed by quicksand. Because it is partially water yet impregnated with sand its density is too high for a person to completely be swallowed by it. At most armpit deep and then your density would be subject to floating just like on a Salt Lake, and you would sync no further. What kills people with quicksand is the compressive force of the sand that traps your body thereby not enabling you to escape without proper knowledge of how to do so or without help. The person then either dies of exposure, dehydration, starvation, being eaten by animals that can actually get out on the sand and get to you such as crabs or other lightweight carnivores, asphyxia if they get in up to their chest and the sand starts to compress every time they breathe, or drowning if you're in a area that gets tidal fluctuations. So again, you cannot be swallowed completely by quicksand, physics and science that has proven otherwise.
@amanschase2 жыл бұрын
Definitely not a death cap, this is Amanita Fulva, aka Tawny Grisette, distinguished by grooves round the edge of the cap and brown colour, a death cap would have no grooves and would be more olive green in colour
