Hi Ricky - In October we released AVEVA PI Server 2024. This includes a major overhaul of the PI Update Manager on the Data Archive to be able to support the massive demand of PI Analytics during this use case. Alleviating these types of issues is one of the releases' goals. Have you been able to upgrade and test this in your scenario?
@rickykwokshingsun2 ай бұрын
I don't have access the PI Data Archive 2024, I have AVEVA PI Server 2018 SP3 Patch 6, that is the latest for me
@stephenkwan59562 ай бұрын
A few comments to perhaps clarify some of the items discussed in this video. When an analysis is first started up, PI Analysis Service signs up with the Data Archive for updates for any PI Points that are involved with that analysis. This is so that if a PI Point value changes, PI Analysis Service would know to perform some tasks. Imagine you have 2000 analyses with 100 PI Points in each element involved with an analysis, that's a lot of PI Point and work to sign up with the PI Update Manager. Now when you change template, PI Analysis Service would send requests to PI Update Manager to drop all the previous signups, then re-signup all the PI Points used in the new template. This is necessary because there's no way to know if the same PI Points are used before/after the template change. In addition, for time based aggregations, the initial starting point is when you turn on the analyses so it's necessary to refresh the data cache with the proper data. This is where the bottleneck is in your scenario. Fortunately PI Server 2024 has targeted improvement to PI Update Manager that should alleviate some of this bottleneck. If you have access to the new release, it's worthwhile to give it a try.

Old pie worked great, was very very easy to use! New aveva pi is absolutely user unfriendly. Why did the take to ease of use away! This new version is like the failed update from windows 2001 to Vista! You made it almost useless from a plant operator stand point!

Hello ricky, can we get multiple values in a single tag from database table.
@aliyakoot30366 ай бұрын
Informative video! For your information, Ignition MQTT has Store & Forward mechanism to make sure you don't loss data if the primary client (OSI PI in your case) is disconnected from the broker (MQTT Distributor Module in Ignition), the broker notifies the publishers (usually in your case the MQTT Transmission Module in Ignition), so the publisher starts to store all the data timestamped, until the connection is reestablished, then it will starts to sync and push the stored data with the timestamp (with balance to not overload the traffic) to fill the gaps. I know it's not like sync historical data in OPC UA, but I think it can cover around 80-90% of the cases and needs.

This is very helpful on the things to consider especially to save and optimise the PI tags count moving from unlimited tags under EA to Flex.

For small budget companies, take a back-up of tag configuration, historical data into a file and move them to other machine. Then disable the tag and delete it after a quarter. If we need it again, go back to import to PI SYSTEM.

Thanks for putting effort to create this video. Can I please ask you a couple questions: 1. Could you give an example of how to send a request to get PI points using postman. for example , what's the base url if I only know the PI Server name. 2. The configuration screenshot you show in your video, I don't see that configuration page at all when I'm using PI system explorer, could it because of my access level? For example, only privileged user can access that page?
@rickykwokshingsun8 ай бұрын
the base url look like this <yourPIWebAPIServer>/piwebapi, in order to get the pi points from your pi server name, you have to drill down to DataServers > Points For the next question, you have to be able to see the configuration database within AF with PI System Explorer in order to change the configuration I hope this help
@tesszheng45868 ай бұрын
@@rickykwokshingsun Thanks for your reply. But as I'm not able to see that configuration page, I can't get a PIWEBAPIServer name/address, I probably need to get myself access to the configuration page first

Hi Ricky. Thanks for the video! Can you please elaborate more on why it is a bad idea to install the latest version? Thanks!
@rickykwokshingsun11 ай бұрын
this is to avoid compatibility issue, the same version must work, but different version or latest version could have bug or compatibility issue with your interface configuration file

Yes job interviews are very stressful and at least 50% of what the interviewers are looking for is how well you can communicate when under pressure as they want a team player as much as an expert in some technical field. Nice video, very humanising and a good topic for people new to the job market. I look forward to watching more.

This is a great overview. It isn't easy for users to understand the new landscape and how the parts fit together or what use cases are appropriate. Have you signed up for developer access to ADH yet? I've had access in the past, but haven't played with anything recently. I think having some industry veterans kicking the tires and slinging the bits in some demos will definitely help people understand the newer technologies and how they might help them solve some of their pain points.
@rickykwokshingsun11 ай бұрын
sorry brother, didn't see those comment until now~ no I still think the use case is very limited, I only see benefit to use it to share data with external vender, but you could do that with other cloud historian as well, why AVEVA Data Hub?

If the OPC server updates the tags and if the tags still won't update in PI, I would just turn OFF and ON the scan. The good old alternative to restarting the interface instance. Ideally the grouping of tags into different interface instances and scan classes is very important to avoid such issues.

The margins are never this thin for a company and the employees are usually asking for relatively small increases 5-10%. If they do their job well and occasionally go beyond that there is no question they merit an increase. Large employers have very large margins per employee so their ability to give raises is large as well.
@AnshulSomani Жыл бұрын
Agreed.. Most big orgs have a large margin and then they delay in giving raise to profit out before they finally do it...
