Most of them are normally a mixture of both music tracks and stories. But there are some that are just stories, and some that are just music 🎶

A 25 minute story is long lmao. If that can keep the attention of a kid it’s worth it
@1-minute-reviews
@1-minute-reviews 10 ай бұрын
True! 😅 Just comparatively short to some of the others, like The Incredibles is a 60 minute story, or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is 198 minutes (😳), so aimed at older kids with better attention spans. A lot of the Disney ones are good for little kids because the stories are shorter and there's music tracks too. 25 mins works nicely if you had it on while they're eating dinner for example 😋 My 4 year old will sit and listen to one all the way through but my almost 2 year old likes to listen for a bit then change to another.

@@1-minute-reviews wow. I didn’t know some were that long.
@1-minute-reviews
@1-minute-reviews 10 ай бұрын
Yeah, and tbh, in my opinion the longer ones don't work that well because the kids are unlikely to sit down in one go and listen to the whole thing, and so to resume and find where they were up to in the story is kind of annoying. There's no visual cue to show what track you're on, you just have to count it out when you whack the side, and that's relying on the kid to remember what number they were on too 😅 So definitely targeted at older kids, but the Yoto Player is much better suited to that junior novel length.

Is the box pretty sturdy (like if they are carrying it and drop/throw it)?
@1-minute-reviews
@1-minute-reviews 10 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's pretty robust. It feels like it's cushioned - kinda spongey! My almost 2 year old has thrown it from her high chair onto tiles and it's still in great condition and functioning perfectly. I mean, I wouldn't recommend that, but they can definitely stand up to being regularly dropped on carpet and normal tumbling you'd expect from a little kid 😅

They are cute but for 165$ or whatever it is on Amazon I could just tell my 30$ Alexa to play whatever kid songs or stories ya no
@1-minute-reviews
@1-minute-reviews 10 ай бұрын
Yeah, that's totally valid. I think the value lies for younger kids in particular, who wouldn't know what to ask Alexa for, or who aren't verbal yet. It's also good for things like car trips where you can give it to them with headphones. But yes, there are plenty of cheap alternative ways to play them music and stories! I'm not in anyway affiliated with them, just providing reviews for those that might look to purchase :)
@elizabethunger9190
@elizabethunger9190 10 ай бұрын
But the Alexa isn’t portable and the whole point is that it gives your kid autonomy to listen to it themselves and pick their own songs and stories. Plus, Alexa doesn’t play full stories.

What? 165? My sister bought a set in Germany in 2017, they were like 70 Euro, the starter set. Crazy how everything has gone up like crazy
@1-minute-reviews
@1-minute-reviews 10 ай бұрын
I think the $165 number is an overestimate. You can still buy a starter set with just one tonie for $99 (usd$) and that's with no discount. If you wait for a sale you'd be able to get it for $75-$80. Or there's good bundle deals available, like Walmart has the box and x3 tonies for $129. But yeah, everything has definitely gone up in price :( Lots of places do have sales regularly though, so if you're prepared to wait and shop around, there's still good deals to be found! :)

But why $100-$300 seem really inflated
@1-minute-reviews
@1-minute-reviews 11 ай бұрын
Yeah, they're definitely expensive for what they are - it's basically an updated version of a CD player and CDs, in a more child friendly wrapper. If you get a starter set on sale, it's a much better deal, and then the tonies themselves often go on sale, but they are definitely expensive. I tend to buy a few on sale, then keep them and give one for a birthday present, one at Christmas etc, to space out the cost. And I look at what toys we have and what gets used, and our Tonie Box gets used multiple times, every day. Helps as well if you get it when they're younger and then can use it for multiple years before they grow out of it :)

@1-minute-reviews
@1-minute-reviews 11 ай бұрын
They might enjoy the music, the story is likely to be less engaging and may not hold their interest as well. There are probably some better picks out there for a 1 year old, but they will definitely grow into this tonie and most of the Disney ones are great because little kids love the music 🙂

The Playtime Puppy tonie which comes with most starter sets is an excellent first tonie as it has really recognisable tracks like the wheels on the bus, head shoulders knees and toes, twinkle twinkle etc. At thay age they will likely favour the music ones for a while, so a lot of the Disney ones are good - in particular, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, Stitch, and Moana all have quite catchy songs. Also, Cookie Monster and Elmo are quite good for the little kids, their voices are super engaging and cute music. As they start to get a bit older, you could introduce them to the story time ones gradually with The Cat in the Hat, The Hungry Caterpillar etc., which are shorter stories with familiar characters and some of them have music in between too :) Expect them to swap them out a lot rather than listening all the way through at that age, but that doesnt take away from their enjoyment! I think they like trying different characters and seeing the cause and effect of each :)
@1-minute-reviews
@1-minute-reviews 11 ай бұрын
So if I had to narrow it down for you, I'd probably go... Playtime Puppy, Cookie Monster and The Lion King. And the other option that's probably really good but I don't have so can't guarantee, would be the Cocomelon ones. I know the TV show is mesmerising for babies, so the tonie would probably be pretty captivating too!

@1-minute-reviews
@1-minute-reviews 11 ай бұрын
Yep. The box is a speaker, doesn't do anything without a little toy (tonie) on top - which are sold separately though they often do starter bundles where you buy the box and get 3 or 4 tonies with it, at a cheaper price than buying individually later.

Definitely! And it will grow with them. I got my youngest her own one for her first birthday as she was playing with her sister's lots! She could put them on herself, but expect them to swap them out a lot rather than listening all the way through at that age. The Playtime Puppy tonie which comes with most starter sets was an instant favourite as it has really recognisable tracks like the wheels on the bus, head shoulders knees and toes, twinkle twinkle etc. They will likely favour the music ones for a while, so a lot of the Disney ones are good for that age - in particular, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, Stitch, and Moana all have quite catchy songs. Also, Cookie Monster and Elmo are quite good for the little kids, their voices are engaging and babies will like flicking between the different characters. As they start to get a bit older, you could introduce them to the story time ones gradually with The Cat in the Hat, The Hungry Caterpillar etc., which are shorter stories with familiar characters and some of them have music in between too :) Hope this helps! Will try and review the ones I mentioned soon, if I haven't already.
