25 years ago, germanies most tragic train crash happened at approxminatly 10:59:06 seconds, ICE 884 "wilhelm conrad röntgen" derailed after a broken metal (the was previously wrapped around the wheel) hit a tounge of a crossing. with a km/h speed of apx 200 km/h wagons 2 and 3 derailed but didn't collide with the bridge, Wagon 4 got sent flying from the sheer amount of force and hit the pylon supporting the bridge. destroying it in the process, the bistro wagon (which thankfully was close at the time and empty) sadly got reduced to a height of 15 cm. every other following car crashed into the previous one reducing the length of multiple cars. into that of 1. sadly, 101 people lost their lives in the eschede disaster. 105 vere injured 70 of them were seriously injured. the lead locomotive got stopped about 600 meters away from the accident. the driver didn't notice what happened. when the (FDL, or person you talk to over radion) dude over the radio told him "dude, you just passed "eschede" empty". not believeing a word the dude told him the train driver got up and exited the locomotive. when he looked back he saw the ash cloud and saw that it was only the lead engine. according to multiple people the train driver was left scarred and never drove again. the DB was found at fault for the accident. the truely horrofying thing that was later discovered that ICE train 884 was a minute late, had it been punctual it would have meet ICE train 787 at around 10:58. however 787 was running a minute early and 884 a minute late. had both been on schedule there would have been more then 101 dead people. soon, the DB planted 101 cherry trees in remembrance of the 101 Victims who perished. Rescue workers that were there, are to this day traumatized from the accident. the DB soon retired the faulty wheels and turned back to the normal wheels. no ICE has ever derailed like that again. may those who lost their lives that fateful day in 1998. rest in Peace.
