I had a Gutter day the other day, One 4 bed house, & then a big mansion afterwards, almost 3rd floor gutters which are always full of water, got two vacs on the go, I kept asking the customer if I can do it before it gets to icy for gutters, but she’s waiting for all the leaves to stop falling, Finally got to do it, I knew it was gonna be about 4 degrees, but I didn’t notice it was gonna be down to -2 the night before🤦♂️ First job, everything frozen, had to get up ladder, break it up by hand, nightmare, Got to last job, thinking sun is out, it’s now 11am, so all that leaves & water should be melted by now…wrong! The property backs onto a park, cold area, still frozen! One inch of frozen water on top of all the leaves, all the way round, Gutter Vac blocking up with frozen pieces, took way longer, even with an industrial vac & a smaller vac on the go, nightmare, Next day temp was back up, would have been better to do it then, But it took a lot of organising FFS🤦♂️

Is the hot water expensive?
@dansmithsonКүн бұрын
It certainly is! But worth it in my opinion.
@symplemynd57Күн бұрын
For cold weather. I just use the brown jersey/garden gloves. They just hold that little bit of heat to keep your hands from freezing, especially when handling a ladder. Buy them in dozen packs.

Shower Temres 282 gloves, waterproof and seamless to take on and off, best ive tried over 20 years on cleaning windows. Although it was expensive to fix my webasto diesel hot water unit, u just cant beat working with hot water no matter the season…theres less to go wrong esp in winter, i find myself working in all sorts of weather now.

A lot of great businesses come from family, where there is extreme loyalty. I remember working with family and barely getting paid for 2 years, part time work provided my main income. The business paid off the business premises, equipment and delivery vans. Then it was a lot easier afterwards with enough capital to make plans to simplify and digitize. The stress was indeed through the roof initially.

I feel your pain. Went from just me to a team of 5 and back down to me solo, a team of 2 and an admin. Lots of scary things happen when hiring people. You pointed out and explained a lot of the pain points I have dealt with this year also. Awesome video man. Keep em coming!
@ExteriorCleaning4Real2 күн бұрын
Dan, awesome videos. Do you deal with very many 2 and 3 story houses when cleaning gutters and fascia? I have been considering getting a skyvac but right now my team just pulls gutters either from a latter or from the roof by hand.

Is it something to bare in mind with hot water cracking windows in the freezing cold or not really an issue
@dansmithson2 күн бұрын
Nah I have never had any issues with that and I have been using hot water for 4 years now!

I know your pain mate. Ive been rhrough a few staff over the years and the fear of being in my own made me put up with alot of tardiness. Luckily my customers are amzing and there happy to wait a couple of months if needs be with me working solo. Got over 600 houses and not lost 1 in 5 years if being solo.

@dansmithson2 күн бұрын
I can’t remember exactly what I pay but I don’t think ha the hot water system makes any difference to the price because it’s diesel, same as the van.
@andrewwelsh27442 күн бұрын
While doesnt cost more on ur van insurance. Worth having cover for goods inside. I have identical kit as Dan's Pure freedom system, Twin electric reels and hot water, I have a seperate insurance to cover goods inside around £17k worth of cover.

What time do you go to bed to be up and about at 5:30 am? Skytec Argons gloves are a good balance - warm but the backs are breathable so not too sweaty but if you get water on back of your hands they will get wet and cold.

Hmm yes and no. Videos and social media in general can make anything look nice but reality can be very different. I don’t have a boss down my neck but I do have to get a lot done every single day and there is no one else to rely on so the buck stops with me and it’s all on my shoulders. Sorry if that sounds a bit negative but anyone self employed would say the same thing 👍

@Taurid-swarm-20325 күн бұрын
I know two guys that own large successful window cleaning businesses and both do a lot of other external cleaning which makes it all work. The regular window cleans are what help keep the business sellable in the future in terms of ARR and perform as a gateway to the higher margin services like pressure washing, gutter cleaning and roof cleaning. Most people are happy just owning a job, but some want something they can work on, not in and/ or sell, horses for courses.
@duncangell82285 күн бұрын
You get days like that, get the odd jobs done clean the WFP's change connectors ect do a bit of admin. Maybe do a bit of door knocking. Then not a completely wasted day. D
