any tips for maintaining active listening while triggered in a conversation?
@AllenStafford4 ай бұрын
@@wild_cub_times that’s a good question. Thanks. When triggered in a conversation, I recommend acknowledging your feelings internally, but keep the focus on the other person speaking. To that, recognize and accept your triggered emotions, but shift your focus away from you to listening to the other person, you may have to repeat the key points being said in your mind to stay focused. Another good technique, one I often use is to take a deep breath, hold for a few seconds and slowly exhale, this helps with any stress or anxiety you may feel. Finally, sometimes it’s better to agree to disagree and excuse yourself from the conversation stating that it’s probably best to take a break and that you can come back for a discussion when both parties are calm and ready to discuss. But for the long term, I’d suggest mindful practice. It has helped mate deal with some intense encounters. All the best.

When people are isolated they will react to buzz words. They are starved of attention and/or positive emotion. They attach memory with the word or associate a feeling. They can be trained to do things if they receive reward after an action. It's basically like training a dog. It's not always used for good. In the age of AI people that are emotionally intelligent are important because some of these robots are based on real humans. They can transfer data from a human to a robot and they can become obsolete in their human body. This is why it's important to know who has access to this technology and their intentions.

Basically your whole life can be leeched from you if someone has selfish intentions.
@PatriciaCurtisYarbrough-bs2cn11 ай бұрын
AI is the next step in evolution if done correctly. The based on people have to be emotionally intelligent and emotionally healthy. Otherwise they will completely fail. So that's another reason why intention is important because if someone knows it will fail they may still take advantage of others that don't understand that.
@AllenStafford11 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on emotional manipulative language in communication. I took some time to respond because I wanted to give your ideas some thought and give you my undivided attention. Your comment touches on several complex and significant issues, including the impact of isolation on susceptibility to manipulation, the comparison of human conditioning to animal training, and concerns about the future of AI technology and emotional intelligence. Indeed, when isolated, the notion that people are more vulnerable to manipulation through emotionally charged language or buzzwords is a poignant observation. Isolation can heighten an individual's longing for connection and recognition, making them more receptive to specific messages or commands, especially if those are linked with positive emotions or rewards. This dynamic is not unlike the conditioning processes seen in animal training, where actions are reinforced with rewards. However, applying this framework to human interactions raises ethical questions about autonomy, consent, and manipulating emotional states for specific outcomes. While stark, your comparison to training a dog underscores the potential for manipulation in human relationships and communication. It's a reminder that emotional intelligence-a deep understanding of and empathy for others' feelings-is a critical counterbalance to such manipulation. Emotional intelligence allows individuals to navigate complex social landscapes with awareness and care, potentially mitigating the risks associated with manipulative language. The intersection of AI and emotional manipulation introduces an additional layer of complexity. As AI systems become more sophisticated, particularly those designed to mimic human behaviors or emotions, the ethical considerations surrounding their use and the intentions of those who control them become increasingly significant. The transfer of human data to robots, as you mentioned, is a concept that is still largely theoretical but raises profound questions about identity, consciousness, and the value of human experience. The potential obsolescence of human roles in certain areas due to AI advancements is a concern that society must address with careful consideration of ethical, social, and economic impacts. You rightly point out the importance of understanding who has access to AI technology and their intentions. As we advance technologically, ensuring that these tools are used ethically and for the betterment of society becomes paramount. Emotional intelligence will indeed play a crucial role in navigating this future, not only in interpersonal relationships but also in understanding and interacting with AI. The conversation around emotional manipulation, AI, and the future of human interaction is complex and multifaceted. As we move forward, a balanced approach that values emotional intelligence, ethical considerations, and technological advancements will be essential. Thank you again for responding with your insightful comment and contributing to this important and hopefully ongoing discussion.

This is an excellent video. A problem which I often encounter where I live is what I call a "collective delusion", whereby the locals refuse to perceive reality qua reality. Specifically, the condition of their communities, which, to visitors, has fallen into a state of abject despair. They're anchored by "community pride" just because the acknowledgement of another's opinion--even if it's formed on objective reality--is such an affront to their self-esteem that it creates an immediate cognitive dissonance, which, in turn, results in the simplest and most convenient form of argument: the ad hominem. Most people aren't capable of engaging in well-reasoned discussion and debate without resorting to logical fallacies, even when one isn't "talking above their level" by labeling anchor bias when it exists. Speaking for myself, learning critical thinking skills took a long time and it was a struggle--sometimes it still happens--to acknowledge and overcome my own c.d. when I know it's happening. I know this may be a silly analogy, but only a few days ago I wanted to learn how to make a marinade. I watched my first KZbin video which served as my anchor point and I was initially going to head straight to the kitchen. Video #2 explained that a marinade should include vinegar because of the affect it has on the meat. After keeping both recipes in mind, a cursory web search populated many websites which addressed my anchor bias. Vinegar won! 😆 I'll look forward to your next video! Thank you!

Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed comment. It’s always great to hear about the experiences of viewers, and the way you’ve related cognitive dissonance to everyday learning is insightful. It’s great that you’re applying critical thinking to all aspects of life, including something as seemingly simple as making a marinade! But, that’s still a great relatable analogy. Looking forward to sharing more content with you!

What if I do not "understand your point" at all? What if both are arguing as a sport? Or as verbal aggression?
@AllenStafford Жыл бұрын
Hi There! Thank you for bringing up these excellent points! You're absolutely right; there are scenarios where 'I Understand Your Point' might not seem applicable or genuine, especially if you genuinely don't understand or agree with the other person's point, or if the argument is more about verbal sparring than seeking resolution. In cases where you don't understand their point, it's perfectly okay to ask for clarification. You might say, 'I'm not sure I fully understand your perspective. Could you explain a bit more?' This keeps the lines of communication open and shows that you're willing to engage thoughtfully. If the argument is more akin to a sport or involves verbal aggression, the dynamics are indeed different. Such arguments are often less about reaching a mutual understanding and more about expressing frustration or dominance. In these instances, it's crucial to set boundaries. You might need to calmly state that you're open to a respectful conversation but not to an argument for the sake of arguing. Remember, effective communication isn't just about the words we use but also about understanding the context and intent behind the conversation. It's about navigating these moments with respect, empathy, and sometimes, firm boundaries. I appreciate your input, as it highlights the complexity and diversity of human interactions. It's a reminder that there's no one-size-fits-all approach to communication, and adapting to the context is key. Thank you for watching and for your thought-provoking comment!

Thank you for your video. Although I appreciate your points, your example conflicts seem to me trivial and easy to resolve. I can think of several cases where the heat is a lot hotter, for instance, when one party resorts to extreme personal attack and provocation and the other party responds, "Oh, yeah…?" Or, when one party stakes out an extreme position which is demonstrably unfounded. Again, I can think of many adversarial positions which do not easily lead to discussion. A benign, but quite telling example, would be: there are more flat-earthers alive today than in classical Greek times. People around the world have know that the earth is round for a long time. Sometimes you have a conflict with somebody you need to maintain a relationship with and there is no going around the conflict. Thanks again.
@AllenStafford Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, @jeremiahreilly9739, for your insightful feedback and for sharing your thoughts! I absolutely agree that not all conflicts are straightforward, and some situations, especially those involving intense personal attacks or deeply entrenched beliefs, can be particularly challenging. In cases of extreme provocation or when dealing with unfounded claims, like the flat earth example you mentioned, it's true that simple phrases alone may not suffice. These situations often require a combination of patience, empathy, and sometimes firm boundaries. It's also important to recognize when a discussion may not lead to an immediate resolution, especially in deeply polarized scenarios. In such cases, focusing on maintaining respect and seeking to understand rather than to convince can be more productive. Sometimes, agreeing to disagree while preserving the relationship is the most viable outcome. Your point about having conflicts with people you need to maintain a relationship with is particularly poignant. Here, clear communication, setting boundaries, and seeking mutual understanding becomes even more crucial. I'll certainly consider your feedback for future content, perhaps exploring more complex conflict scenarios and offering strategies for those tougher conversations. Thank you again for engaging with the video and contributing to this important discussion! ;)

Let's find common ground. Why are the 'healers' in your first two animated examples female? Women are generally the drama queens and combative participants in the workplace. My question is rhetorical and don't expect a response, although my point is valid. Political correctness is distorting reality. Women are on the wrong side of things quite often and they need to be held accountable when they are acting inappropriately, not constantly depicted as the perpetual 'healers' of the world.
