@@dougbrown1097 I retired 2 years ago and the plan was to move to Washington next summer till my youngest finishes high school. Now with Oregon and Washington getting as mucked up as California my plans are not so definite. I was just up in Edmonds last week, I bought a new boat and towed it back to San Jose. It is a North River 2300C offshore. My family loves it. I plan on splitting my retirement time between living on the Big Island and somewhere on the mainland, maybe Wyoming. No winters will be spent in Wyoming though, that is Hawaii time. Congratulations 🎊 on your retirement. It is nice to get paid for doing nothing......🤙🏼

Be careful. When you’re really tired the potential to make really big mistakes increases. When you first started to pulling the fish in the gaff was on your lap and the point was pointing to a sensitive part of your anatomy. If the gaff had not moved and the fish had thrashed it could have resulted in a bad injury. Perhaps you could loop a rope around its tail first. This would allow you to take your time to catch your breath and clear your cockpit before bringing the fish onboard .

With all of the expense put into these kayaks and gear would it not make more sense to just to get a small Dinghy? I just purchased my first Compass Duo which I got to keep in shape primarily and do some fishing but it just seems silly to me how intensely some of these people use these kayaks! They definitely like getting intimate with their fish! I'm still trying to figure out why these things are so incredibly popular when you could get a used dinghy for the same price. Maybe they are just fun? Maybe people will enjoy staying in good shape by pedaling? I guess you have to have a fairly small boat to be able to pedal and fish at the same time. None the less every time I see one of these guys with so many rods, and Outriggers Electronics just so much gear it looks a little silly on a little 12-foot kayak
@Tokyo_Titus4 жыл бұрын
I feel much safer on a sit on top kayak that has a sealed compartment. If it flips, flip it back over. If a dinghy flips or takes on the least bit of water its over. I have my kayak set up like the yaks you spoke about. Electronics, 2.5 outboard, cooler, lure box and 4 rod/reel set ups. The only difference is that I have an outrigger to keep the rig more stable. I have had mine in at least 5 foot seas with white caps, if not 6ft. I was completely drenched and the experience quite humbling but it pushed through without any issues. I have just under 4k in mine (not a Hobie), including outboard, electronics, Hobie outrigger and LiFePO4 battery. Not many other $4k options will get me 10 miles out and still make me feel safe. That is why so many people outfit kayaks this way.

Nice catch Doug, I caught a 45" ono and a 27" uku a little further south a couple weeks ago. Striped Marlin have been running strong at R bouy the last couple weeks with the influx spawn opelu/aku and shibi. My neighbor Chris got a nice one on his ski last Saturday. I'm off to florida for the next few months, it will be windy and nasty by the time I get back...
