@@howimake1 you can save the used evapo-rust and reuse it too! it's brilliant stuff.

I run my slightly cupped boards through the thickness planer and all I get is a very thin sheet of flat paper, or a much thinner cupped board... wut the hail.
@xisotopexАй бұрын
when resawing the stock, how do you keep the edges from bending inward as you push the board through the blade? what blade would be best for resawing on the table saw, just a regular rip blade?

@@howimake1haha, had a go today… epic fail 😂. Got a Nice piece of oak and cut the ‘S’ shape on the bandsaw. Cut a nice thin strip for the infill on my bandsaw… don’t know what type of wood as it was reclaimed from a piece of furniture. Clamped it in place and PING, it snapped. I guess the infill was too brittle, plus in hindsight I had tighter bends on my abstract shape. Never mind… great excuse to get back in the workshop tomorrow and try again.
@howimake1Ай бұрын
@@MrBigMalT Ah bummer! That has definitely happened to me a few times. I've found that if you soak the wood strips in water for a good bit it helps with the bending. If you have time put it in clamps without glue and let it dry it should hold most of its shape and allow you to have a nice glue up. But I've also glued it up without letting it dry and it worked out fine. Definitely don't give up and keep me posted.

Getting the most out of your tools, in a modest workshop and building with reclaimed crap is fantastic. This impresses me far more than the tool sponsored vanity palaces that litter KZbin. I’m subscribed.

What are the dimensions? How thick are the panels and what type of wood species did you use here?
@howimake16 ай бұрын
It's been a while but I think it is about 10 inches long by 5 inches tall and wide. The sides are a 1/4 inch thick and the panels are about 1/8 inch thick. I'm pretty sure I used walnut and cherry.

Or you could buy a tin of blackboard paint and a box of chalks and then you could pass messages to each other: "Not in for tea on Thursday", "Mum called" etc. Or give the chalks to your children, for while you're cooking, I worked late one day and came home to a representation of the Solar System.
