I sure hope someone pointed out to him how wonderful his classmates were being, to make the experience enjoyable for him.

This is one of the most beautiful and moving things I have ever seen. I have ADHD and misophonia. And that turned out to be just the tip of the iceberg for my health issues. I was diagnosed with ADHD in college (mid 90s.) The main accomodation I needed in school was a silent room for taking tests. Just the sound of pencils scratching on paper would drive me insane. It was a battle to get anyone to take it seriously and accomodate me even after I was diagnosed. I had to take tests with lawnmowers blasting through open windows. To see an entire school understand and respect this need for silence is incredibly moving. It's what I missed out on and I know there are countless others like me. The world has changed a lot and it's beautiful to see it.

So cool that they treated him with dignity & grace. What if we did the same for photosensitive people? 😅💜

before watching the video, I thought the crowd being silent meant they didnt like the kid. I didnt know he was sensitive to clapping until watching the video

this isn’t surprising to me and that’s why i love my school ( the highschool part at least ) no one judges or makes fun of you, even when its something as simple as being silent when a student is answering a question. like literally i was silent for a few minutes when i got picked on for a math question and when i finally said something people clapped and cheered for me😭 everyone is friends and i love it. theres also mentally and physically disabled students and i think that everyone is very respectful towards them and that should be the norm. sorry i felt like yapping 😭

As an autistic person, no. I’m one of the best behaved kids in my class. I don’t have side conversations, I do all my work, meanwhile most other kids are talking, drawing in their tests, doing origami, there’s even one kid that knits. We’re not the problem most of the time. There’s almost always a trigger to a meltdown, and once it starts, we do our best to stop it but it just doesn’t stop. I understand that this is probably rage bait, but still!

as an autistic person and a misophonic, i hate how much everyday sounds bother me, but i shouldn't expect anyone to change their behaviour. my life is objectively less important than theirs, they shouldn't have to care. be ashamed of yourself if you can't tolerate it. toughen up

Many people with an ASD are sensitive to loud and/or high-pitch noises, including myself. In my case (I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome in Fall 2003), babies/small children crying, jets flying low overhead, sudden/unexpected noises like pneumatic tools and jump-scares, the proverbial fingernails-on-a-chalkboard... However, I was able to sit and walk [anxiously] through my own high school graduation in 2001 without any issues nor any special accommodations. And at my current job, I use the sensitivity of my ears to determine if a speaker or chorus is too loud or too quiet; it serves my employer well!

If you are not familiar, raised shaking the hands like the lady on the stage in red is a way of "clapping" for the deaf. Works well also for those with sensory challenges.
