Hear me out Yong and Mike and the rest of Pinoy teachers, I am Thai, got my master degree from Australia and speak English fluently, but when I worked as an English instructor, I still earned less than those backpacker-turned teachers in Thailand! Furthermore, a Thai teacher’s salary would be classified according to the ministry of education, based on years of the teaching experience and believe me, it increases more sluggishly than a slug. Filipinos are classified under foreign professional which is not subjected to the same regulations as their Thai counterparts, so you guys can negotiate the pay package directly with the school. Chances are that you may earn higher than a Thai teacher doing the same jobs, so don’t be disheartened that you guys pocket maybe slimmer the “native speakers”. I know this is suck, but we are adapting. Few decades ago , teaching in Thailand was not really an option for Filipino teachers, we had no one to do the job, so backpackers filled the void. Now there more people competing for the jobs, so, we can be more selective with candidates. I teached English too, I know that acquiring another language is not a simple process. For native speakers who didn’t have to go to those steps themselves, I don’t think they can relate well with Thai students. In that regards, Filipino teachers are the best option we have. So keep coming, we love you !!!!!

Hmmm, napaisip lang ako dun sa comment nyo about sa not liking the '1 year contract sa Thai schools'. Hindi po ba contract are supposed to work that way? Kaya nga sya 1 year contract that can be renewed. May choice ka pren naman if you will accept the terms or not. Tama din nmn yung suggestion nyo na lumipat na sya ng school if they do not like the terms of the contract. Pwede rin naman kayo mag offer ng terms nyo sa school and see if they will accept it. I think that is just the reality about contracts, and it is not specific sa Thailand. Parang sa mga Seaman, every round ng trabaho mo eh subject for renewal ang contract. Madami din naman benefits ang contract, kaya sya major part ng business and transactions. It is to protect the employer and the employee.
