Put some respect on Chaos Wars! It was ahead of its time by being a slightly niche mediocre soulless crossover-those feel like all the rage now! Little ramble but the game still holds a super special place in my heart. My dad bought it for me at GameStop because it was like $5. It was the first ps2 game **I** owned, so I adored it. I remember thinking some of the characters looked so cool. Dad watched me play and bought me ff tactics advance which kind of set in stone my love of TRPGs. Funny how life works like that.

@TheKHC That is fair. Well, in my case I actually find new stuff to read, watch or play via checking lowest-priced items on the e-commerce sites. For example, a week ago I got my hands on Final Fantasy 1-3 novelization and the original Parasite Eve novel, which I had no idea existed prior to checking the listings. I do that nearly every month, mostly limiting myself to ~$25. Yeah, I know, it's a pretty weird way, but that's pretty much where most of the stuff I have come from.

Wild that your biggest criticism of this game is actually what made me love it so much, getting baited that the game was over the 80 times it does it just kept me stuck to it. Could just be a case of stockholm syndrome though lol.

Also wanted some clarity, when you say Act 2 (the part you said was a giga grind fest) which chapters specifically are you mentioning, tried to piece it together with how you broke down the chapters and acts but I still cant figure out which chapters you disliked the most. I actually disliked chapter 2 I think (lava mountain area) as that area was a hellhole without all the movement abilities you get later on in the game.

@@TheKHC The seaside town iirc has you go back and forth a ton of times. The snow mountains has you backtrack to lower your weight, I never minded the future area because by the time I got there I had grinded my fucking brains out and was overpowered. The issue of enemy damage scaling you raise is HUGE in the snow area, you go from clearing the game pretty easily to just getting fucked in a bullet hell. While having to backtrack a bunch of times.

I'm pretty into Chinese stufff and have been reading the Pearl S Buck translation of The Water Margin lately, and definitely want to get around to this one eventually. But I had a dream where I was in a red room but I knew that it was an enemy Stand user like in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and that the stand was called "Red Chamber Dream" so now I want Stands based off the 4 Great Chinese Classics.

The primary thing I remember about this game is Ethen's hair. (jk jk) Personally, I like both this game and Shadow of Memories. However, the primary reason I like Shadow of Memories is because it's an incredibly goofy and comfy adventure. The actual time travel elements in that game are fairly bad, and the story really doesn't make any sense at all once you think about it for 1,5 seconds. And I feel the same is sort of true in this game. The "time travel" element isn't particularly well done. And I dislike the setting in Time Hollow less than in Shadow of Memories (I really don't enjoy playing as a schoolgoing teenager having dinner with his parents, but that's just me). But again, I do have a fondness for both games.

Sorry to bother you again but.. are there any other DS strategy rpg worth playing. Gonna have to pass on Advanced Wars and Fire Emblem since its the most common of the common answers... I also got Knights in the Nightmare but I am getting kinda close to finishing it. I dont really know if this handheld is as good as PSP in terms of strategy rpg

Advance wars is solid but I hate FE so I would never reccomend you that bottom of the barrel trite. The DS has some solid ones but I'll stick to ones that have english translations, official or otherwise; The DS Port of Yggdra is great, ASH is solid Pokemon Conquest is a decent Nobunaga's Ambition spinoff ValPro Covenant of the Plume is very solid There's a bunch of decent Super Robot Wars games on the DS though the best ones are the Endless Frontier duology which are traditional RPGS, albeit very good ones FFTactics A2 is decent DS also has the best version of Front Mission 1 The rest of the DS SRPG library is either Japan only or flatout terrible. Often both. If you wanna know why just look up Tactics Layer and you'll instantly know why I say this

I heard it got similar gameplay to THAT Idea Factory game on psp I dont wanna mention.. if Yggdra Union got actual DS port, I guess thats cool then(although I already played it to deth on psp version, hehehe). Ok so I guess DS strategy games are just a bunch of "quantity > quality" games... ok I think I will just move on after my DS version KitN playthrough.

I also forgot to mention, I finally finished Phantom Brave. It may have flaws that I really dont wanna see in other games like the lack of tightness on power-leveling and solutions always being solved by being overgrinded...... but I will never say that Confine system is a bad thing like those japanese Disgaea fans say. The boundary and confine system forms a different kind of strategic layer in fights. If your character level is on equal term, you really have to find a way on how to reduce your enemy's number. It may not have been on the same level as Gungnir's tactical depth but it is something that I wanna see more in modern rpg. I tried two indie strategy rpg called "Fae Tactics" and Fell Seal Arbiter" and both fail to make it good and none ever tried to take notes from Phantom Brave.

@@TheKHC the story is my favorite part, and that's coming from someone who isn't into story. Now with this "sequel" announcement, I kinda felt hesitant on giving it a try. I am afraid of the game being turned into a fanfictionized plotline. For the meantime, I will just continue exploring more nintendo DS games before moving to bigger rpgs.

While most of disaster report 2 does take place in December, I didn't count it cause A) that game doesn't have much of an interconnected plot and B) it's really only one level that actually takes place on Christmas

I would give just about anything for you to live stream a playthrough of Lifeline. I would imagine you probably had to invent some new profanity to express your frustration with that game. Bring Tony on to make it a hundred times worse. People always talk about Die Hard and Christmas, but Shane Black famously set his movies during Christmas. Lethal Weapon, Iron Man 3, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Long Kiss Goodnight, and The Nice Guys were all set during Christmas. They're also all pretty good movies. I did just watch Die Hard with the kids last night though. RIP Alan Rickman. Shenmue will always be special to me because I was stationed in Yokosuka where the game takes place, and they even have Spruance-class destroyers on the pier. Also, Santa Claus took me out drinking there. I don't remember anything after that. That version of Joy To The World was always creepy to me. I hear it sometimes when I'm having an episode. Now that I can equate it with Kermit, it won't creep me out as much. Thanks! Have a good Christmas, KHC. Thanks for another year of putting up with me.
