Just goes to prove how time does not stand still and nothing lasts forever! Century 3 Mall: legendary respect!

I miss this mall and the movie theater behind it! I had some great memories there. Kinda sad that they tear down this unique place just to put up yet another Walmart...which in a way,is the same kinda place the mall used to be.

Hmm was unaware there were other century malls, assuming this is from a chain of sorts. There was one in Merrillville Indiana years ago, was 1 floor, pretty much a long curved hallway with stores along the walls and some busy days would have kiosks or shops out in the center. They also had a small food court, an alladin's castle arcade, I believe berlington coat factory and montgomery wards as an anchor store. It was sad to see it slowly get less busy eventually closing down. Right now there's a shell of the "core" left vacant, there's been construction signage and posts along it for years with no real progress.

If you break down a regional shopping mall into its basic components over the last 50 years or so, they really haven’t changed that much. Same old concept, stores and hype, just updated technology to make it look more glitzy.

I'll tell you what started the decline the blacks started coming in in groves ruined for everybody with the violence and the robberies that were taking place just like they did with Monroeville Mall that mall is complete chaos right now because of the blacks and now they're moving to the Robinson Mall it's only time of that mall shuts down because of them

Great concise summary of the mall’s history. This was a really awesome video. Great for my attention span.

I heard in the news they’re still demolishing the mall, it’ll be a long process because it’s a large structure. I’ve been binging on dead malls lately and just sad to hear all these malls dying and closing just these past a couple years alone. Some are already extinct, no longer standing on earth. When malls were thriving were times most of us viewers here cherished the most. Our youth and the fun times we had at malls before we took in the responsibility of adulthood. I’m now in my 30s but remembered the times of shopping with family and taking the bus or be picked up by my friends to go to the mall to hang out. The youth today don’t have the same experience like we had. It’s so sad and I’m just reflecting on the nostalgia. I prefer shopping in the malls than online. I hate going through the hassles of returning clothes & shoes that don’t fit. I end up giving them away, hard earned money wasted shopping online. Thanks for documenting this mall. Just subscribed. 👍

Thank you for this! I was born in 1979 and grew up going here quite often as my dad worked there when I was a kid. Many a Friday evenings were spent wandering around the food court, buying Penny candy, playing vid games in the arcade, checking out the pet store, and checking out the large bird cage!

If Simon Company took ownership of Century III instead of Moonbeam, then it would still be around today instead of getting demolished.

Along came Walmart and Amazon. It’s a shame, because people are looking for things to do. Fairs in the summer are usually crowded and fall events are busy. Do we all just want to sit home? Covid destroyed a lot of business owners and opportunities; unless you had deep pockets to weather the pandemic. The mall could have been used as an indoor amusement park, farmers markets, car dealerships under one roof, first of its kind indoor university campus and technology center with dormitories. But gangs, and kids out for a thrill daring each other have ruined that mall into oblivion! All those shops could have been class rooms! Imagine an indoor amusement park when the snow is flying. Sadly those flat roofs once damaged end buildings pretty quickly. I still like to kick the tires before buying. However outdoor malls are thriving? One can only wonder what other uses this mall could have been? As big as it is an assisted living community with post office, banks, doctors offices and grocery stores. Takes imagination and wealth of many people to make these things realistic.

I was born in ‘77 in west Mifflin and lived 5 miles away from century 3. I literally grew up in this mall. Almost every weekend we went shopping there. I got my first job there at Sears. It was really like a second home. So many friends and good times spent there. It’s hard to believe that it’s gone.
