Doug, I went ahead and made my own "pro wrestling" rules in the meantime, for use with the Arena (or I guess they could work anytime too).

Any comments on the arts of the artifacts cards exclusively produced for the JP version? Couldn't find anywhere.
@HeroQuestFansАй бұрын
they are 100% on YeOldeInn.com forums. check out the threads started by HispaZargon on the Japanese HeroQuest. modified versions appear on YeOldeInn.com website in the custom cards section (but if you want the originals look to the forums)

these are all available in the YeOldeInn.com forums topic where HispaZargon discusses the Japanese edition. long ago a few others put up modified versions of the artifacts on YeOldeInn.com itself (the website is many years out of date compared to the forums). basically there is a stronger blade for use by the Barbarian alone (Silver sword), a stronger Bow (Freeze Bow) for use by the Elf alone, and a stronger axe (Flame Axe) for use by the Dwarf alone. these "legendary treasures" together are used in combination to beat the final bad guy of this edition of HeroQuest. the Wizard eventually gets the Wand of Recall (similar to the quest treasure of the same name in the EU edition or the Wand of Magic in the NA edition). the Talisman of Lore instead of granting extra mind points functions like the NA's Elixir of Life, but it can be used over and over again, to bring many dead heroes back to life (but at the cost of their gold). There is also a mention of a Dragon Eye, but the real thing about the JP edition is that you "gamble" between quests with your gold to try to increase your maximum body points (a lot of extra gold is given to make this more feasible, than any other edition). please note that the versions of the artifacts in HispaZargon's thread are the originals, but any others (from drathe, sjeng, or bastianbux) are modifications meant to be used with other editions (EU or NA rules).

the art is all available on YeOldeInn.com website (in the sections on cards), or (in better quality format) in HispaZargon's forum thread about the Japanese edition scans and translations.

the "wrestling move" cards we're using are borrowed from my copy of Ravensberger's "WWE Legends Royal Rumble Card Game." (thanks Jacer for the idea)

revised "Pro Wrestling Arena" Rules (created by Kurgan, playtested with suggestions by Bohemyus, Ribby, and Jacer): opposing teams begin in their respective rooms (based on arena mode from ATOH remake) The goal is for one team to eliminate the other in a big pro-wrestling style brawl! each team rolls 1d6 (movement die) to determine who goes first. on Zargon's turn he activates one monster (or on the heroes turn they activate one hero as in the arena mode rules) Heroes may use their spells and potions, but NO weapons may be used (except improvised furniture weapons found in the arena) and only non-metal armor may be worn (and no shields may be carried into battle) Movement is fixed at 8 squares for heroes, and the movement value printed on the card for monsters adjacent enemies may engage in a wrestling "Grapple": both characters roll 2d6 (movement dice). highest roll wins during a grapple situational bonuses can add to the grapple roll: being stronger than your opponent ("based attack" on card being higher); being adjacent to an ally... each of these grants +1 to the grapple roll Winner of the Grapple may either do a "wrestling move" (draw a card or state your preferred move for fun) doing 1 BP automatic damage OR perform their normal attack (using "base attack" value on their card). When simply attacking (not as the result of winning a grapple), a character rolls their "Unarmed" attack value (for monsters this will still be the card value unless they hold a weapon under normal circumstances... weaker monsters are simply 1 die while stronger monsters may be reduced to 2 dice, monsters that have no weapon on their model roll the card value as base attack). Normal attacks may be defended against, but attacks by the Grapple WINNER are "unblockable" furniture may be picked up if your character is adjacent, as an action: roll 1 combat die, a skull indicates you've acquired the weapon. Chairs add 1 combat dice to that character's unarmed attack (a character who normally rolls 1 now rolls 2) while Tables add 2 combat dice to the unarmed attack value. A character reduced to 0 BP is not dead, but "knocked down." ANY enemy character adjacent to them may attempt to "PIN" the fallen character. To escape a PIN attempt, the fallen character gets three sequential chances to roll their shield (white for heroes and their allies, black for monsters) to "kick out" and restore 1 BP to be back on their feet again. Failure to do so, means they are "eliminated" from the match. this simulates the referee counting to "three" for them to get their shoulder up. While being PINNED any adjacent ally may attempt to "break up" the PIN and save their partner. They simply roll 1 combat die, and if it is a Skull, they break up the pin, the fallen character revives with 1 BP and are back in action. While being pinned a SkullBlight's tendrils don't "grasp" anyone, but while they are back on their feet, they do. In theory a "Sleep" spell would knock a monster down, preventing them from kicking out of a PIN attempt. Attempts are made to "balance" the teams based on overall body points of the groups. Otherwise the rules follow the "arena mode" rules of ATOH remake edition by Avalon Hill. "The Legend" has other special abilities, but we didn't choose to implement them this time. improvised weapons are subject to breakage... wooden Planks and Chairs break after a single smash. Tables break after 2 smashes. A character holding such a weapon immediately drops it if they engage in a Grapple.
