i love your dogs window seat! enjoyed viewing your studio, its great! you in Albuquerque? santa fe? i rarely get to go up that high in the state but when i do i love checking out the local art : ) closer to me, theres some good studios in ruidoso , probably some nice ones in every town, the whole state is pretty full of artists! I'm in the tularosa basin, you know where white sands is? its in the tularosa basin as well. i never have gotten to go paint plein air there but have worked from photos many times. nm is full of sooo many gorgeous places to inspire. i especially love going to our mountains to paint, up by cloudcroft or ruidoso & capitan, wish i got to more often! mostly when i paint outside its in our back field , we have great views of mtns on all sides. ah looked you up your 5 and 1/2 hours away i probably won't ever get up that way! glad i found your channel though since your a fellow New Mexican!

Suppose you were to work with palette and brush? Could you, say, scrape color from the stick onto a palette dish, mix with solvent and use a brush to paint in?
@pleinairpainter
@pleinairpainter Жыл бұрын
I'm sure you could do that. The only problem I see is that it takes a bit of work to make the oil stick get soft in the presence of OMS; trying to liquify it via the method your describe might be a bit frustrating. But....give it a go!

What a lovely process. I am assuming you are working on a primed canvas. I wonder what would happen if I work on unprimed and I stretched one 🤔
@pleinairpainter
@pleinairpainter Жыл бұрын
Thanks. I would not use unprimed canvas; the primed canvas would have a size on it, applied prior to the priming, which will prevent the oil from oil sticks and oil paint penetrating down into the fibers and "rotting" them.

Thanks for sharing. Love the medium myself and I'm always scouring around for gouache. What sketchbook were you using, if I may ask?

Thanks, Jenna. I used a Pentalic 5" x 8" 140 lb. (300 gsm) AF Aqua Journal 48 Page Book. I have the full list of materials here - mchesleyjohnson.blogspot.com/2018/05/packing-for-scotland.html
