As an atheist,homosexual scotsman(military historian and and too lol) religion disgusts me,but often religion is blamed for wars in which it's really just another aggravating factor. A proper military history called "Monmouths first rebellion,the later covenenter ridings 1660-1685" . Well worth buying. Lastly I loved the tribute to the late great Angus McBride,he of Osprey book artwork. It's from his two volume of colour plates from the English civil war, volume one ,infantry. Worth getting too. It was a bad time for scotland,witchcraft executions even still taking place,but it was the precursor to the Scottish enlightenment in which religion was forced to step back and many great people advanced world science.
