The great irony was that when the news of James II/VII's defeat at the Boyne reached the Continent, the loudest pealing bells were in the Vatican! That's what come of James' siding with Louis XIV of France

Incredibly moving and evocative guitar by Neil Young and what a song by REM - this the best country song but category is inappropriate as this song is human & universal in terms of feelings and emotions - quite extraordinarily beautiful.❤🧡💛💚💜

I'm a covenanter and a communist. Covenanters were partisans communists are partisans communists are against evil, degeneracy, landlords (lairds) and are for truth and justice like the covenanters. Its past time we had a workers government and a reinvigorated presbyterian church system in this country. The wokes and the papists have destroyed this land, its time for us to take it back. Am a covenanters soldier and i haud tae ma beleifs.

Put religion aside for once, it has never solved anything anyway, unless we unite -completely- those malignant influences lurking around always looking for a jink to slither through will convince the young that what we stand for-freedom- is nothing but a pack of lies, and all we ever knew is to be laughed at . Remind them again and again the truth and that truth is about a nation that stood up to the threat of tyranny and won, only difference this time is that the enemy then was from outside, this time they are here but the only way to defeat them is to, as I've said, unite. Away with religion, for It's religion that has unleashed the terrible war now raging in the middle East and all the hatred that goes with it. I'm Scottish and proud of it, I don't listen to the voice of false promises-they, are lies. So, not only do we have to have a barrier between us of religion, but also that pack of lies implanted into our young folks brains that preaches that the English are our enemies. THEY are dumbfounded at the SNP want to break away at all. They, and their leader reaching out to outsiders to help keep him in power, outsiders that we would normally avoid, speaks volumes, and it tells of how we have dropped our guard. It's the same as here in England for the Prime Minister has betrayed us-and you-by refusing to eject the Illegals, united we stand!

As an atheist, homosexual scotsman(military historian and and too lol) religion disgusts me,but often religion is blamed for wars in which it's really just another aggravating factor. Many covenanters saw a slippery slope that would deprive them of more than religious rights beginning. Reading W.Louths new book, published by Helion and Co right now. A proper military history called "Monmouths first rebellion, the later covenenter ridings 1660-1685" . Well worth buying. Lastly I loved the tribute to the late great Angus McBride,he of Osprey book artwork. It's from his two volume of colour plates from the English civil war, volume one ,infantry. Worth getting too. It was a bad time for scotland, witchcraft executions even still taking place, but it was the precursor to the Scottish enlightenment in which religion was forced to step back and many great people advanced world science.

Religion was EVERYTHING before modern Nation States (not 'race' or 'nationality'< which didnt exist!). Native americans that 'turned Christian' were thought of (originally) as ...Good Christians. Only Relgion mattered then, in the 17th and into the 18th century...by the end of the 19th century "Nation States" as a concept was the new conception, rather than Religion/Kingdom etc.. You cannot just reframe history with 21st century hindsight and values. the Colonies of the u.s. were.. predominantly Protestant, but each colony had a different main religious group/charter and different ideas about self-government. In any case, the "Scotch-Irish" of colonial America would end up being about 25% of the Continental army during the actual revolution.. That led to a Nation of , former colonies..then Republics. Catch yersel oan pal.

The "Scottish Englightenment" also saw English as the ascendent language "of rational thought" by Scottish englightenment thinkers while Scots (The language)< was treated as rustic/antiquated etc. So.. there were good and bad aspects.
