I like the colours, but not my top choice. For me, gas tank in the back. Would be nice if the pipes and cables were a bit more protected/hidden. The pipes next to the gas tank look to be 100mm away from the wall, just making space awkward. Is there a hot shower plug in that you can get on the shower hook up as an accessory?. Size of water tank, and underslung is great. Is there a level gauge for the gas tank? Nice base vehicle, will be on the market to upgrade to that soon.

The idea for the bike storage is excellent. The only thing that’s missing for me is some kind of blind/curtain that can be dropped behind the drivers seat to keep the heat in the sleeping area for the colder months. 😍 9.7 👍

The T5.1, 2010 on, with the 2.0 cr engine was Euro 5. The T5 (up to 2010) with the PD engine was Euro 4 after 2006. Before that it was euro 3. The T5.1, being the CR engine, is much smoother and quieter. I’ve had both engines, the CR is so much smoother and much nicer to live with with, but I quite liked the 1.9 tdi as, even though it had a bit less power, it felt like it all came at once, which was fun, for a bit. Obviously different power outputs depending on the map etc were available on all models. I went for T5.1 140, because it has enough poke for everything you’d need to do, and it comes with the far better/stronger 6 speed gearbox. So if you did want to remap, you’ll have no problems. I’ve not owned a T6 or T6.1, but I’ve driven a few. A bit smoother again, but not by much. Essentially, it’s a trade off between emissions and reliability. For me the sweet spot is the T5.1. The 1.9 on earlier vans is tough, but had problems later in its run (BLS engine) as they pursued better emissions. The 2.5 was hard as nails, nice to drive but expensive to repair if it did go south gear driven cam, not belt). Nice summary, hadn’t noticed the wind noise difference, but not spent enough time in a t6 on the motorway.

Sam the vans have really progressed nicely that you are converting - top quality and love all the extras now available and how you have developed the conversion. the underslung water, moved the gas & electric stuff from the living space cupboards. The rail system is great.esp for the flexibility to move the seating for extra space . I'd like to see the LWB with SWB furniture but pulled in to the living space,. A compromise to the living space I know in a LWB, but you'd have huge area at the rear instead for bikes and kit. Tow bar is really useful, used mine loads for the bikes. I would go for tailgate , when its chucking it down which has been too frequent its brilliant as a cover..If I had my time again I would get the solar, inverter and lithium battery. Top job!

Personally, I went for the swb because it's my only mode of transport, and fits in even the smallest parking spaces (just). Money no object I'd get a lwb crafter or merc sprinter and then habe a small car for the day to day driving, but for most people the swb transporter/transit etc is the perfect size to use as a daily driver and day van / small camper.

Hi I’m looking to buy a camper van in the next 4 or 5 months what is the lowest price you can get a camper for
@HighlifeCampersUKАй бұрын
Hi John, you can pay £15k for a used.camper but it will be 10-15 years old and have a lot of miles. There are many variables that come into it, the main ones being the age, mileage and model of the base vehicle as well as the standard of the conversion.
@quarrymanhamiltonАй бұрын
That’s a stunning conversion
@KennyRoberts-w3zАй бұрын
Love your conversions but they are all very much the same, i guess that works for your company but it would be nice to see you use your imagination a bit with interior layouts.
@HighlifeCampersUKАй бұрын
Thanks @@KennyRoberts-w3z we aren't a bespoke conversion company, we have a signature design and layout with lots of colour combinations. If we changed the design on every van we would convert half the vans we do. Plus there are only so many configurations in the back of a Transporter, and we feel our layout maximises the space.
@robertcook2572Ай бұрын
Very tasteful. I reckon I could take the barn doors if it meant I could have auto. Unless money is no object there's usually a compromise somewhere. At the end of the day it's all about actually using the thing and enjoying the freedom to explore this country and Europe

@HighlifeCampersUKАй бұрын

@SnowyAspenHillsАй бұрын
Unobstructed vision is another plus of tailgate. UK so much tailgate is must in my opinion. Space to open is one downside but if you reverse tight to a another vehicle it’s not going to be easy to get in other than smashing a window. The weight is definitely an issue I’m considering taking out the chairs and using my Helinox camping chairs stored somewhere else in the van to reduce the weight of the tailgate.
@southernsteve1Ай бұрын
I do like the idea of the RIB bed, especially the boot space and the fact you can raise the ends. On trying one out, I found when the bed was in seat configuration it was rather high and your legs dangled over the edge. Is this something that can be altered during conversion so the bed/seat is lower and your feet are on the floor?
@SimonWatson-g8kАй бұрын
Looks fantastic. Lots of vans now being lowered, adding front splitter and underslung tanks. What ground clearance does it have though? I have been to some rough campsites.
@HighlifeCampersUKАй бұрын
Hi @@SimonWatson-g8k lowering the van by 40mm has no effect on ground clearance for your average use on campsites. But if you are planning to off road then a VW camper probably isn't the right solution.

Just watched some of your very helpful videos. In this particular one you don't recommend using an ordinary electric heater in your van because it might damage your battery. Presumably this isn't the case if you're hooked up to the external electricity supply - or is it?🤔
@bicycleadventures2133Ай бұрын
Do you not need an annual hab check with these vans?
@HighlifeCampersUKАй бұрын
Yes, we recommend a check over every 12 months, especially the gas.
@bicycleadventures2133Ай бұрын
I’m guessing that’s an extra cost which you would do?
@HighlifeCampersUKАй бұрын
@@bicycleadventures2133 we don't cover the cost of future checks and maintenance. It's all done before our customers collect their camper and then its down to the owner to maintain it like any other vehicle.
@bicycleadventures2133Ай бұрын
I think there’s a misunderstanding. The video is about running cost, but annual hab check wasn’t mentioned, unless I missed it, thats’ all. :-)
@HighlifeCampersUKАй бұрын
@@bicycleadventures2133 yes we should have covered that, an annual gas check is around £120 which gives you a 12 month certificate, that's really the main thing to check annually. Other things like the electrics can be checked by any leisure vehicle company or we can do that for our customers for a small charge. But unless something is wrong it's not necessary.

Speed limits are different on a leisure vehicle versus a commercial vehicle, for example dual carriage ways 70mph for leisure v 60mph commercial van
@HighlifeCampersUKАй бұрын
Thanks for your comment. You do not have to do 60 miles an hour on the motorway in a SWB commercial vehicle. As a camper it still weighs under 3 tonnes and is seen the same as any other SWB van. Being a commercial vehicle on the V5 makes no difference to speed limits on the motorway, but there is a speed restriction for medium sized vans on dual carriage ways, regardless of whether it's just a van or has been converted. So it's 60 mph on dual carriage ways for all medium size vans, Transporters & Transits etc.
@growingupisatrap6688Ай бұрын
@ yeah agreed on Motorways it's 70, it's just the dual carriage ways where you're restricted unlike motor homes
@Above-The-CloudsАй бұрын
I thought speed limits was the main V5 bugbear. 🤔

There are no speed restrictions on motorways for Transporters, regardless of being a commercial vehicle or camper. Speed restrictions are only applicable on dual carriage ways for medium sized vans.

I’ve got a vw transporter 5.1 with a 6 speed manual and my wife has a vw Passat with a DSG. I’d rather drive her car, especially around town or in stop/start heavy traffic But imho the biggest advantage with the DSG, and I presume it’s the case with the transporter, is that in cruise control, if I have to slow down and drop a gear in the transporter it knocks out the cruise control, but with the Passat, if I have to slow down and the DSG drops a gear, the cruise control says active. If/when I change the 5.1 for a newer model, I’d definitely go for the DSG.
@stephenbland7461Ай бұрын
One more advantage of barn doors is that you can get soft panels with pockets that can be attached to the inside of the barn doors which gives you a lot of extra storage. I personally prefer barn doors because I can get stuff out so much more quickly. Plus the gas struts on tail gates which will eventually wear out. Mine has got barn doors with tinted heated rear windows and wash wipers. That said, it’s good that we have choices.
@stephenbland74612 ай бұрын
I’ve got a T5.1 that is a second car and now only does about 2k miles a year. It is regularly and meticulously serviced and with about 60k on the clock had already had the cam belt etc changed. One time, after it had been parked up for about 4 months, I took it out and after a few miles, the belt shredded, not the cam belt. Long story short, I had to replace belts, pulleys, alternator etc etc., with a bill for over £1k. And my mechanic said that vehicles do not like to be stood up for months on end, so even if it’s a camper that doesn’t get used that often, still take it our for a drive every few weeks so things don’t seize up.
