Because code can have errors or weaknesses. Especially when a game wasn't made with a whole lot of time to work with, like Megaman 2

Sometimes a glitch can happen just during normal gameplay, sometimes it requires figuring out the game's mechanics and applying them in a specific way, sometimes it comes from someone using a memory viewer to look at parts of the game's RAM and look for specific changes during gameplay

Found 2 decent time savers: 0:21 - bring a chair or something you can deploy instantly and stand on to jump into the window to press the button 1:38 - activating this elevator and riding it up at 2:05 is not necessary; in the Cellular Lab room just before the Refined Carbon machine, take the door in the back of the room to access a shortcut ladder that puts you right in front of the Anteverse Gem machine, WAY faster.

Dude i know this video is super old but thank you so much. This was my favorite game as a kid and now im 40 and want to crush it. No interest in WR runs with a fam but I’m 32 and change and would love to go sub 30 just to show myself I can. This video has been a massive help. Thank you very much for putting some love into it and showing me how it’s done.

Yesss!!! Got my wiggles down and zipped into bomb wall boss but was having a hard time getting out to fight the boss but I just hit left right (with a A button somewhere in there maybe lol)as fast as I could, cause I kept zipping back around and had to retry , but I finally made it in the room!!! But usually I have to use at least a E tank or 2 but can beat it with out though not often, and I play on a o.g. n.e.s. so no save state's for this guy, so anyways I made it in the room no e tanks and 0 lives and finished the game, not working any of the zips in a Speedrun , not ready yet, but I was so stoked to have pulled, a few zips and tricks from your tutorial that when I got to the boss gauntlet I said screw it all or nothing, I was pumped, oh and I play it on difficult so there's that but yeah so stoked thank you, that last wiggle to into the boss room then beating the rest of the game on empty, I usually will take a death , I mean I had been doing the whole time through the playthrough, but at that moment no way, and lastly congratulations on all your success, blessings to you and yours Mr. Duckfist🙏✌️

Thank you for your awesome breakdown, I'm able to do the clash man zip death warp!!! And I finally was able to keep the lights on in the first quik man zip , was trying in the dark and almost made it but it's still tricky for me, then first try second zip, I went to fast and before I had time to slow down for the door to not soft lock I hit right, right at the door and made it!!!! Lol think that was a fluke but it be great if I could just do it that way 😆, ✌️

This is amazing! As a complete beginner to speedrunning, this is exactly what I need. Everything is explained incredibly well, the inputs in the corner are really useful, and overall it's perfect for understanding the fundamentals of MM2.

Interesting that spellcasting would spawn an emitter on the hand like that, and only follows a target during the "normal" cast.

update for you, i did it; kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXPMe6WYfK2Wmck i knew it would be vital for the speedrun (this skips both train sequences, functionally reducing the level requirement for the game and cutting easily over an hour off the normal run)

@@duckfist thanks, im calling this glitch 'duckbombing' based on how you can set up a trip bomb like you've shown in the video, and so far i've also found a few places where that weird speed boost can be used to skip some sections. the run itself is gonna be a while since i've gotta finish routing it and all but i might be able to pull of a pretty big sequence break using the duckbomb boost so it should be pretty good

Is there any other video comparing both strats? You can do the 2nd to last room without getting hit or needing to destroy the cannon, so maybe it can save more time than it seems, even if just a little bit

You deserve more attention and I wish you released more videos. You're one of 3 of my favorite speedrunners. No one else took this much time and patience explaining all those small little glitches.
