the child was only there after they failed to release the Master during the Harvet. Since Buffy never showed up at the Hell mouth they were able to complete the harvest and release the Master therefore not needing the anointed one

Tried reading Dante's Divine Comedy when I was a teenager. Hell was easy to get into, Purgatory was a struggle, and I just couldn't get into Heaven.
