I just got back into baseball after years and years of a steady diet of toxins and just beating my body into the ground, i grabbed a pair of Mizuno 9 spikes and i live in the inner city and the fields are horrible, guys get in the box and dig ruts like a cat in a litter box . Im only 5 ft 8 as is in the trench like 5 2 but my problem is my quads! Felt like i blew em both out! Could it be the cleats, i know im not a spring chicken anymore but ive never had these kinds of problems!

Was hoping to see how to install a new home plate in a new baseball field. Like how do you know exactly where to put a home plate
@wizmikey_307 ай бұрын
If it’s a new field with no first and third bases ever put in you just slap the home plate where you want it and you start from there. New baseball fields are built from the home plate. If you’re replacing anything you go off your foul poles. A little tip I like to do so I always remember if I’m working off the poles is “fair is always in”

My OCD noticed that home to first was 89' 11.5 inches and home to third was 90' exactly. Not enough to worry about but they weren't the same. I would have also used fresh moist clay without big dry chunks or chop up the old clay and rehydrate it. I have really bad OCD. lol

Use a string line on a cord reel and set it behind the apex and run to the center of the foul pole and then paint the grass and chalk the dirt. I've been lining athletic fields for a long long long time.

This video should be lesson #1 of "Field Lining 101". The string locates the boundary of the area it is identifying. As is correctly demonstrated here, on softball and baseball fields, all paint/chalk lines lie entirely within the area they identify. Therefore the edge of the line should align with the string, never the center. Lines centered on strings are reserved for football yard lines or soccer's center line. Timesaving tip: Install a permanent spike (80 penny nail or 12" landscape spike nail) on the outside edge of each foul pole at the base of the fence (where the mower cannot hit them). Leave their heads standing 1/2" proud. Bend the string around the spike, pull tight, and stake somewhere to the side using a permanent loop in the string. This method makes very quick work of pulling foul line strings tight without having to fumble with loops and knots each time. 😃

A helpful variation is to install the plate's top surface 1/2" below grade. This will provide the plate with some protection from the infield drag. On game day prior to lining, the plate can be quickly exposed with a broom or field rake. Under no circumstances allow the plate to stand higher than the surrounding ground.

Why “pop” the string? Does it leave a line like carpenters do?
@crazyassman15 Жыл бұрын
It gets stuck around the grass and the arch area depends on field but you pop it for a straight line

Yes. Ideally you want about a half inch of loose soft dirt on top of your playing surface after long dragging than cross cut dragging using over lapping circles

Not the one shown in this video. This one is very rigid. During installation, the cavities should be tightly packed with soil which will then bond with the underlying ground and add support.

I play baseball and too answer your Question, the chalk is not slippery. As baseball players, an Unwritten rule is that you can’t step on the Foul Lines. Because it’s bad luck

Paul huge fan of your videos and work. The past couple years I have taken a real interest in taking care of our fields where my daughter plays. Learning from your videos and others around the net has helped a ton. I have been able to give the girls a much safer and reliable playing surface and our league receives compliments on it all the time. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us and the wonderful products at Beacon.
