Im a nurse and I have a hack.... If you have mild symptoms, like, scratchy throat, itchy inner ear, raspy voice, take a covid test, it may show negative, but wait, take a picture of the test with your cell, magnify it, if you even see the slightest of line on test portion, you have Covid, you just dont have enough virons for the line to turn dark. 2 days later take a test, you will have a visible line without taking a picture, but you will know when you started, making isolation and time of contagiousness shorter.

How long is isolation on a ship, lets say you had symptoms for 3 days, but the test is negative due to not enough virons, but you know its Covid, so you test again in 2 days due to continuing symptons and it immediately shows possitive. Are they using the start of symptoms as firs day, or day you tested possitive? How long did ship make you quarantine?

On our first cruise, I started to feel like I was getting a cold around the 7th day of a 9 day cruise. I didn't have a fever, just a cough and sore throat. It never occured to me that it was COVID. When I got home, I took a COVID test and tested positive. My husband also tested positive the day we got home. We self-isolated at home, and didn't suffer any long-term effects.

I tested positive on celebrity 5 days into a 9 day cruise. They have an isolation concierge who took care of meals and canceling tours etc. they did not have Paxlovid on the ship. I was in isolation 5 days ( one day into our back to back cruise) no escorts, just a mask. I also received a credit for future cruise. There was no charge for the visit. Maybe they want people to feel comfortable going to the infirmary?

A few weeks ago i started to feel tired and worn down at home. A few days later started a dry cough and my head completely stuffed up, thought it was a cold. After a couple days i got a severe sore throat. Now i thought it was strep. Went to urgent care and to my surprise i tested positive for covid. First time ive had it. Doctor sent me home, said there was nothing to do but get rest and drink plenty of fluids. What surprised me is that i wore a mask to urgent care but the attendant and the doctor didnt, even after i tested positive. After 10 days i was back to normal. The doctor said everyone has different symptoms and that the virus has mutated like 5x now and it gets less severe everytime it mutates

Thanks for the info! We just got off a European cruise. Around 50% of the people on my cruise were sneezing and coughing. The worst part was that nobody covered their coughs or sneezes. They were just coughing on everybody’s faces 😭. Of course we got sick, luckily on the last day of the cruise. We didn’t take a covid test. In my opinion there is no longer a letal risk with the new strains. Just treating it like a regular cold. Day 3 and feeling better 😊.

That has’t been my experience so far. Last year I got quite sick after a child coughed right in my face. Thru it all I tested negative, so it was likely a cold or flu that turned into bronchitis. It wasn’t fun tho, that’s for certain. This time, the test was positive real fast, so it seemed to worked as designed. Of course they were different manufacturers as well.

No one reports Covid anymore to medical anymore unless you want to be quarantined. I was on a Celebrity cruise in January so many people had the flu & Covid. I forgot my inhaler asked for one there. They tested me & sure enough I was positive, I had no symptoms. Got stuck in my room for the last few days of our cruise. I was mad. I told him have you looked up top most everyone is sick & I’m stuck in my room. He says yes many are sick but if you come here (medical) you are escorted to your room. Your card is locked so you can’t use it. You have to wait until everyone is off the ship, escorted to a room with any other sick people for disembarkation. Fill masks etc a big todo about being sick. Then escorted down the ramp of shame. Once off the ship you’re free to go. It was quite a performance.

I’m sorry you had such a bad experience. I too was frustrated in the way the cruise lines are handling this. The honest people are penalized while others just roam around spreading it and making others sick. I was lucky enough to be quarantined just one day, but each ship seems to handle it differently.

I disembarked yesterday from the Crown Princess and I got COVID on day eight of an eleven day cruise. Since I got it last year in 2023, I made sure to consult with my doctor if antiviral medication is worth taking, and was told if it's mild, not worth taking. When I tested positive, gave a call to the medical center, and we both agreed that Paxlovid isn't necessary for mild symptoms, and the phone consult was all I needed, no in-person visit. But I do recall last year, if I wanted Paxlovid, it would cost $750, which is the same prices you paid for. With current guidelines, if symptoms improve after 24 hours, I am released from isolation, but even then, I voluntarily isolated the rest of the trip, only going out for picking up meals and beverages while masked to consume in my room. Thank you for your honesty to report this to the ship's medical center. On my cruise, symptomatic people continued on, treating it like it's nothing, spreading it around.

Yeah, people were clearly spreading it around my sailing, but the line not wanting to even test people in the same cabin as someone testing positive was a contributing factor in my opinion.

I can identify 100%! I just came home from my 2nd cruise last Sunday. I was one of only 4 or 5 people to wear a mask constantly in the common areas and elevators. Since I have a respiratory condition, my doctor at home gave me instructions to travel with a Covid test kit, a thermometer, and he wrote an Rx for Paxlovid for me to travel with. He followed up with his protocol for me to follow and when to alert the Ship's doctor if I started to feel ill. I had a good supply of disposable masks and washed my hands constantly. I went to the VA for a Covid test on Monday morning which was negative. I started feeling somewhat ill the next day on Tuesday (slight cough, tired) and thought I might have had the flu. Symptoms continued, and the home test on Wednesday was Covid positive. I took a pic of the test strip and emailed my home doc. He told me to start the Paxlovid Rx. I'm starting to feel better now. The fever has broken, and I'm not as exhausted. What surprised me was how quickly this came on after a negative Covid test at he hospital. Until this, I was actually one of the people who HADN'T contracted Covid yet. I just wanted to share that some passengers made comments about my mask wearing after I left an elevator, and a couple snickered when ship staff asked me to pull my mask down when I was leaving the ship. Let's just be kind to each other and respectful. Thank you, Miss, and I hope you are feeling better.

You can get the insurance thru the cruise line, but the thing to remember is that it only covers what you book thru them. I book my own flights and hotels, for example, so if I had an issue that would not be a covered expense. The other thing is to look closely at the amounts they offer for medical transport back home, because that can get very expensive-into the six figure range.

I'm sorry, and hope you feel whole soon. I contracted my first case of Covid during my late-August (2024) Boston to Quebec City Princess cruise. As I did on a longer cruise to Hawaii in January, I packed a Covid Test Kit ($20) and a prescription for Paxlovid ($0 - Medicare). I was fully masked during my flight to Boston, and am pretty good at distancing thanks to my introversion. About 6 days in to my 10-day cruise I developed a strong headache, then some muscle aches. Overnight, I got a very sore throat and began some deep (though occasional) coughing. I took the Covid test, and immediately saw I was positive. I phoned the medical center and spoke directly with the doctor. He asked me my symptoms. He was pleased that I came prepared with a test kit and with Paxlovid. He asked me to recite my medications, then said it was fine for me to begin taking the Paxlovid. He said I should consider myself to be quarantined to my cabin (I was sailing solo), and that he would contact guest services to let them know. He urged me to rest, and advised me I could order pretty much any thing I wanted via room service and on the Ocean Now app. He also had a bottle of cough suppressant delivered to my cabin. Like you, I didn't feel much like eating anything grandiose, so I stuck to comfort food via Ocean Now. I watched movies on my TV and slept. My cabin steward spontaneously delivered a carafe of hot water, tea bags and a bowl of honey, to make me feel better. He also place a tiny table outside my cabin door on which food would be delivered. About 27 hours later I got a call from the doctor who asked how I was feeling. My headache had diminished, my body aches were gone, and my throat was much less sore. He then called Guest Services who called me -- they took me off of Quarantine, and simply asked that I remain mindful of how I was feeling. Princess staff (doctor, guest services, steward, food deliverers) were entirely kind and respectful throughout all of this. Since I didn't have a face-to-face appointment with any medical staff, nor did I need a prescription since I brought my own, my total charge from Princess was approximately $20 for the cough suppressant issued by the doctor. No exam fee or consultant cost. That was a very nice outcome. Princess also put a letter under my cabin door saying they would be giving me Future Cruise Credit for the equivalent fare cost of one day of this cruise, which was nice. For my final two days aboard the ship I stayed far apart from others, used the stairs, and ate out in the fresh air. If I needed to walk through a wall of people, I put on my mask (and did the same on the airplane flights home). It has now been six days since returning home. My lingering symptom is a rare hard cough, and unusual fatigue while doing simple tasks. My appetite is fine and I'm sleeping fine. Sure, I was unhappy about joining the ranks of infected...and I wished I had booked a balcony room to minimize my quarantine experience. But Princess came through with a Five-Star response to my illness. In the future I will once again only travel with a Covid test kit and with my own prescription for Paxlovid. It saved me a great deal of money on this cruise. The Paxlovid had a shelf-life of approximately one year.

I hope you doing ok. I just returned from a Canada Cruise and tested positive at home. The day before I experienced a runny nose and attributed my symptoms to my allergies. My husband tested negative as well as my two boys so I was happy about that. I think I got it from the shuttle boats, they were so packed with many people coughing. In the future I will wait for the bigger shuttles, since they have better ventilation. I’m glad I took my temperature as soon as I got home. After noticing a 101 fever I tested myself for COVID immediately and it was positive. My symptoms have been super mild and just head congestion. The fever was just one day. Medication prescribed by my doctor was $389, that’s with insurance and a coupon. I didn’t get the medicine. Waiting for 2 more days to retest.

Oh my goodness! I just posted about contracting Covid after coming home from a cruise to Canada! We might have been on the same ship! I disembarked in Manhattan on 9/8. I did take a tender to Bar Harbor round trip from the ship. As a matter of fact, I was on a tender later in the day, which was full. I watched everyone on the tenders I was on and I was the ONLY ONE wearing a mask! As a matter of fact, a passenger stopped me in Canada remarking that he saw me on the tender boat wearing a US Army baseball cap. I was wondering why he didn't wonder about 99.9% of the passengers NOT wearing a mask! With 4,000 passengers on the ship from all over the country it's surprising to me that more people did not wear masks. I hope you are feeling better. Good luck! I came down with Covid a day after disembarking a Norwegian Fjords cruise last September. We’re on a cruise to Alaska in just over a week and I am coming prepared this time. My GP in the UK gave me a private prescription for Paxlovid and antibiotics in case of infection. Cost £11 for Paxlovid and £12 for the antibiotics. I took Paxlovid last year which made Covid go away for a week but I then had rebound for another 10 days after that and got a chest infection. But I got better and have always been fully vaccinated. This time I’m a bit more anxious as I am on immunosuppressants but have had good advice from Dr about how to deal with it if I get Covid. I have travel insurance but there have been recent cases in the press where travel insurance companies refuse to pay out for Covid where there are underlying medical conditions. So I am coming prepared. If anything it will save me hundreds of dollars in visiting the ship medical centre. Wishing you better.
