Straightforward and easy to follow. I find the Turks head to be the least intuitive knot, in general.

Clear explanation of the knot, easily followed. This was one of the earliest knots that I learned outside of the purely utilitarian scout knots. It has a terrific appearance and is easily doubled.

Jesus Christ. Why is this so overcomplicated. You take 3 sticks wrap around your strip, and swing the middle stick a few times until tripod forms. It's easier and faster way. Which means it's the best way.

Thank you for your comment, like a lot of knots, there are multiple ways to tie them. I agree that the best method is usually the easiest. like the KISS abbreviation ( keep it simple stupid). that's why I have revisited the same knots before and probably will do again in the future, as I spot a easier way/different method of tying a knot, I will try to pass the information on. if you make a video of how to tie it your way, id be interested to see it, please leave a link in the comment.

Great video, MagpieKnots. Looking forward to your next upload from you. I hit the thumbs up icon on your content. Keep up the fantastic work! The detailed steps you provided for tying the waggle were incredibly helpful. Have you considered discussing the differences in technique when using various types of cord materials, and how that might affect the final outcome?

I think it's the same everywhere, a mixture of skill and interest, I was demonstrating how to make rope yesterday at a local museum, I had one child about 12 made a 1m length of rope and left with a sheet of knots to practice with and then another about 10 stay for about 30 mins and learnt about 5 and I gave them a little booklet, that child picked it up so quickly. I was happy to know that both showed an interest and one looked like they really wanted to learn. My aim and attitude towards teaching knots is more to inspire than to teach, if they only learn one knot but want to learn more, that's better than them learning six and not wanting to learn any more. I know that my view is biased towards knots, but I think it's a great skill to have and everyone should learn about six basic knots for everyday life, unfortunately they don't teach it in schools. I'm hoping with this play list it might make it easier for shout leaders and the scouting family to learn. thank you for your comment.

Hi there, I'm sorry that I'm not a climber and have no experience with climbing ropes. The idea of using a blunt needle is to not cut or damage any fibres, just to create a gap for the thread. I tied a different whipping in braided rope with a needle, but not sure if it would be suitable for climbing ropes, if you want to check it out here is the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqDFe4BpnLGSd9E

Thank you! I had been playing around with snaking knots and. Came across the issue of starting end ending them. I used a separate piece of whipping twine and tried to hde their reef knot inside the fray of the rope, but I really like how simple and practical this method is.

I have been doing this (double looping the bites on the ends) ever since I noticed that just one loop can loosen if the line goes slack enough and the bite can sometimes fall out. I thought I had invented that! LOL. The likelihood of that happening depends on the stiffness and slickness of the line. Shaking and on-off tension can unravel a sheepshank as well. I have yet to make that happen after double-looping the bites with the two loops right up against each other. I've also tried running the working ends thru the loop but that requires access to each end. The latter is probably the most secure, however.

A few times I thought I had also come up with a new knot, even thinking of a fitting name, but sooner or later I have spotted it in a book. try Encyclopaedia of knots and fancy rope work by Gaumont and Hensel, they have loads of Sheepshank knots detailed, its something like 27 types, But its been a few years since I have read it.

proper names: Mezzo Barcaiolo Halbmastwurfsicherung from Jim Titt: Originally it was called the "Mezzo Barcaiolo" (which is the Italian equivalent of halbmastwurf) and introduced by a guy called Mario Bisaccia who developed the karabiner required. The UIAA tried to claim it as their own and originally proposed "UIAA Hitch" but this got shouted down and Italian Hitch was generally agreed with. The actual Munter Hitch was an appalling idea, so much so that after Werner Munter had recovered from the injuries sustained demonstrating his idea he widely promoted the Italian Hitch. Werner Munter is still alive and fairly recently retired from being a leading the Swiss avalanche researcher.

Sorry for the slow reply, I usually tape or "whip" the ends and hide the join behind the cords, usually seizing them or sowing them together, occasionally if its decorative I will glue as its easier and not needed to be durable for a practical use.

I was taught the Bag knot when I was about 10 years old, my job was riding on the combine while we were threshing oats the combine would fill one bag and then the alternate bag and when the bag was full my job was to tie the bag the way I did it was place the cord or twine under my thumb of my left hand with my hand around the neck of the bag the middle of the twine we’re over my left hand ring finger around the bag back up under the ends of my fingers around one more time and up through the loop that was formed by my ring finger I did this in 1,2,3, moves once up through the loop and my ring finger you pull it tight I can this in about two seconds. I am now 74 years old and it comes back to me, second nature without thinking about it Be safe, Be good, Be kind, Trust GOD
