Thank you for the video and explanation of extract edge. I haven't used it yet with my K3 III, but I did once with the KP. It was not a good experience; I messed up and at the time didn't know why, but now I do. I was taking photos of an indoor baptismal at our church and I had just got the KP to replace my K5 and wanted to use it immediately. I had set liveview up for Extract Edge but had not actually used it. I had expected to be able to use the viewfinder to take the photos but was unable to do this. Because of my position, I was forced to use liveview and the look of using extract edge surprised me and I missed some shots. I should have used the K5 until I was comfortable with the new KP. Now today I know one of my problems, the lighting was too dim for extract edge.

Hello from France - Thank you for your clarification. Despite your videos, I still have difficulties choosing the right settings of Autofocus according to what I photograph (animals, landscape, macro, street photo etc...). I would also like to have some clarification on the best old lenses with the K3 III. I saw a video that Pentax was stopping manufacturing the K3 III in Japan. What do you think of the future...

A very helpful demonstration and discussion. It’s never occurred to me to me to use extract edge. If for no other reason than highlight edge meets my needs. Having watched your content I may try extract edge going forward. Thanks for the helpful content. Going forward, more about macro and also if you do focus stacking?

Thanks, K. I tried extract edge a couple times and the screen was so dark I could not use it. Now I know why! Oh BTW, I had highlight edge enabled and when I used the iPhone app to do shooting, I saw the edges much better in a MF macro lens shot. It was very usable on my phone screen. I've filed that away. Seems you learn new things every day with these complex cameras.

Hi, I was wondering if Cactus V6 II will work with Pentax AF 540FGZ flash both HSS and none HSS mode? Have you tried it? Do you know any other triggers for the Pentax flashes?
@KobieMC
@KobieMC 4 күн бұрын
Yes the Cactus V6 II works with Pentax flashes. I've tried it on both Pentax and 3rd party Pentax TTL flashes. It worked on all of them. However, for the price, I still recommend Godox/Flashpoint instead.

Thank you for your answer. Well actually I already have one and I was trying to figure out how to set it but I couldn't. I was searching on KZbin for video, which shows how to set it for Pentax flashes, but I couldn't find one. Maybe that's is a good idea for a new video? Dose it work only in TTL mode , or can be set as manual mode too?

Thanks! This will help me to use some of my old K-mount zoom lenses with K3iii. They are priceless today, but my heart says that they are not trash. Quite complicated procedure, anyway. I am also happy that there is no trouble with the old prime Pentax lenses with K1ii. They are so good lenses that I have not found any reason to purchase any new prime lenses for full frame. Sorry Ricoh…

Pentax is going to have to join the mirrorless game real soon or go out of the camera business it's that simple. They've lagged behind major camera makers as far as autofocus they've always been behind their autofocus is never been any good . They're hanging on to the die-hard DSLR fans and that's coming to an end go mirrorless or go home.

For some reason, this is not working with my K-3 Mark I. I set to Catch in Focus with a manual lens attached, and it will still shoot when out of focus. I also noticed that even though the switch on the side is in Auto Focus, it still puts the camera in manual focus mode when a vintage lens is attached.

in my opinion if pentax made a modern mirrorless medium format 67ii or 6X7 & a full frame mirrorless version of the asahi pentax body kinda like how nikon is doing that primary focus on photo unlike most of these other brands now since they're so spec'd out. it gives people room to go to something modern without having to focus on paying for specs they aren't using. currently i shoot with a lumix s5ii but i've been considering a canon 5DSR or a pentax K1ii and this is simply because its hard to get into a brand that focuses entirely on photo without it being primarily a hybrid camera. having video isn't bad, but i dont think every camera has to have 4k,6k & 8k video especially if you aren't even using it.
@WilburnEdwards

Good video. Also if using a newer lens that has a manual & auto settings on the lens you can use "Catch & Focus" by setting the switch to manual. Keep the switch on the camera to auto, same as using a older lens (example would be the DA*50-135..)

love using vintage lenses on my KP, and catch-in-focus is such an awesome feature, and it's not just in the high end bodies. pentax is such an underrated system for these kinds of features. By the way, you forgot the MOST important setting - "allow focus ring shutter release" thingy, to even let the camera work without an electric contact lens.

Kobie I have never used my manuel lenses on the K3- Mark III I have used only weather sealed autofocus lenses on the camera in the 2 years I have had the camera I have never had to clean the sensor. I use my manuel focus M and A lenses on my other Pentax cameras and yes I do have to clean the sensors quite often on the other cameras as they are dust collectors when used with non weather sealed lenses. The Pentax * istDL & K100D need fast lenses like my Takumar 50mm1.4 as ISO above ISO 800 is worthless on the cameras without noise reduction software and manuel focus lenses work just fine with Catch- In- Focus on the old cameras

I stay with my series of PENTAX bodies & enjoy their unique everything (handling, build quality, friendliest menu, lenses, the FEEL). 2. Manufacturing sensors is a very expensive venture & they don't have that many sales, like Canon, to justify doing it. 3. If I decide to go with a second brand, my choice is Fuji, especially their MF. 4. SONY is fantastic but soulless. SONY bought the fabulous Minolta brand (which I have always loved) but improved its machinery not its soulful tradition. This is also what Canon did (in their own way) when they got into digital. Canon's CEO, in mid-2000, said profit is first & foremost.

That's a real shame Kobie. My 600 is still in great shape, although I am not. At 68 I have a real hard time with it's weight. Pentax Canada had some real good technicians back in the day. It was a sad day when they got shut down. I wonder if any of the techs stayed in Canada or did they all go back the Japan? They were able to fix an ancient K500/4.5 from the 70's for me. Maybe contact some of the big camera shops in Toronto and/or NY. If they won't fix it them selves, perhaps they know of some "real" lens technicians. They have to be out there somewhere.

Honestly, I PREFER doing photography with Pentax equipment, but for the very reason you have noted it is a fool's errand to invest more cash in Pentax. I REALLY hope that you are able to get it worked on and fixed. For the longest time I wanted the F or FA version of that lens or the 250-600 f5;6 F or FA. For the same price I will likely get a Canon 600mm f4 version III.
