Are you able to pick up more weight every time you go to the gym?
@undeniable909 күн бұрын
Not every time. And definitely not when calories are low. Trying to push heavier and heavier weights every time is too taxing. I change weight, change reps I mix it up but the important part is that I'm pushing myself and my limitations.
@ld29069 күн бұрын
Absolutely. It's funny how that kinda hometruth has to actually be articulated nowadays. The cost of the instant gratification, comfort zone culture, no less. Overcompensation is a crisis response. It's triggered by overstimulation (which is nothing less than effective stimulation). Stimulation is essential. It is a natural good of universal value. Each particular form of stimulation has specific attributes, whose effective value is relative to the subject. By way of analogy; shoes are good for everyone but must fit to form for their value to be optimised. And.... to avoid getting blisters.

@Prsethsun28 күн бұрын
Thats not technically true. Studies have shown that growth can be stimulated by going 1-2ish reps within failure (that isn’t to say that you should never go to true failure) Also, the weight doesn’t have to change, as there are multiple methods of achieving progressive overload, making the weight heavier is one of them, but changing the speed of the reps/motion, adding more resistance through means of like resistance bands for example, etc there are a couple ways to make a movement harder to stimulate growth
@undeniable9028 күн бұрын
@Prsethsun Hey, what's up, man. Yeah, I've heard 1-3, but I don't really subscribe to it. FOR ME The very idea of progressive "OVER-load" is diametrically opposed to 1-3 reps in the tank. How can a person progressively overload anything if the hreshold is never met to begin with. I think you have to utterly force growth to happen, or else your body won't deploy the resources necessary to compensate. There has to be a fine line you cross over. And I believe that line is failure. Extra reps, tempo, speeds all of that I do believe will do the trick agreed. 👍 As long as there is a "SUPER-imposition" of stress. Super meaning above or beyond.
@Prsethsun28 күн бұрын
@@undeniable90 It may vary from person to person, but I personally have noticed that in terms of both muscle mass and strength increase, less has been more, and I think this is due to better recovery in terms if growth, muscle, and CNS fatigue. Too often do I see people forcing themselves to failure all the time, and as a result of that and not recovering properly, not experiencing significant growth. Again, I do think training to complete failure is important, in MODERATION for most. Some people can just recover quickly and experience great growth from this, but I find that group tends to be the minority. I think social media and influencers have pushed training to failure a little too hard, personally, which is where I think the notion that failure is necessary comes from.
@michaelhood231228 күн бұрын
I mean, if you reach failure, then you can't do anymore reps. It's in the name. But you have the right idea, kinda. 😅
