are configurations the same? Asking for a friend haha
@SolidProfessor13 күн бұрын
For most users, configurations will still the same within SOLIDWORKS for Makers. However, if you choose to use the included 3DEXPERIENCE applications to work with SOLIDWORKS files, there will be some differences. The platform uses a system of CAD Families, Physical Parts, and Representations which have a similar hierarchy to Parts > Configurations > Derived configurations, but are not treated exactly the same. You can read more about them at the link below, but ultimately if you plan to just use SOLIDWORKS you won't need to worry about anything: help.solidworks.com/2024/English/SWConnected/swdotworks/t_Creating_a_Configuration_Manually.htm

3DExperience is one of the worst workflows iv'e ever used for 3D moddeling. Always online, can't find install files and troubleshooting and completly deleting it from the PC doesnt work. ZERO support form 3DS or solidworks. IT from company can't figure it out either. WORST program I have used in my life. I LOVE SOLIDWORKS btw.

Z up? Decades ago we used the left hand rule and your thumb was the z axis and you index finger was the Y. This was the wireframe days and I never understood why SW didn't have the z pointing at you in the screen like the left hand rule so is that what this does?
@SolidProfessor24 күн бұрын
Not exactly (if I'm understanding you correctly) but close - Assuming you're looking a part for a standard isometric view, the default orientation in SOLIDWORKS (Y-up) has the Y axis representing height, while X represents width and Z represents depth or the direction "into and out of the screen", following the right-hand rule rather than the left-hand rule. The Z-up option essentially swaps the Y and Z directions to the Z represents height instead of depth, which tends to be common in many CNC programming applications. It's really all a matter of preference, but it can be really confusing if you learned CAD in a different orientation. I hope this helps!

Wow, is this all complicated. And from what I understand it is not possible to use it on a Mac. Hopefully FreeCAD will some day fill the gap for a good CAD app that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Fusion 360 is buggy and slow, Onshape completely out of price range. 😞

can you take the CSWP with a makers license?
@SolidProfessor2 ай бұрын
Excellent question! The models provided for the CSWP (and all certification exams) are based on the commercial version of the software, but the Maker version is capable of opening commercial files, so you should be able to take the exams with the Maker version. It's important to note though that add-ins like Simulation are unavailable for the Maker version, so you will not be able to attempt any certifications requiring add-ins.

i keep forgetting to select 'this configuration' in the sketch edit. is there a way to make it default?
@SolidProfessor3 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, I don't believe there's a way to set this as the default option out of the box. However, you might be interested in the Modify Configurations dialog if you haven't used it before. Once you use it to set parameter values for each configuration, any further manual dimension changes should be set to "This Configuration" as you're describing. Hopefully this article from the Help documentation will be useful: help.solidworks.com/2024/english/SolidWorks/sldworks/r_configuration_table_db.htm?id=ea1da77530c446f09b69e7ae935b3889&_gl=1*k6b823*_up*MQ..*_ga*MjMzMjcxMDgwLjE3MTk4NzA5Nzc.*_ga_XQJPQWHZHH*MTcxOTg3MDk3Ny4xLjEuMTcxOTg3MDk3OS4wLjAuMA..#Pg0

You certainly could, at least in certain aspects. Autodesk products are very popular in the oil and gas industry, and typically several different programs would be used in conjunction for a project that large.

Can I use this 3d experience software to 3d print my designs and sell them without restrictions? please help. Been checking different 3d cad softwares that put restrictions on how much money you can make off your 3d print designs which I found ridiculous.
@SolidProfessor4 ай бұрын
You can use this version to design and 3D print, but unfortunately income is limited to $2,000 per year for the Makers license according to Dassault Systemes. This tends to be the case for most hobbyist versions of CAD software as you mentioned. The free version of Fusion is limited to $1,000 per year, and many other programs don't allow for commercial use at all.
@bonjournito3 ай бұрын
@@SolidProfessorHow they know your income? Is this means your files on cloud is being checked by size maybe? 😮
@SolidProfessor3 ай бұрын
@@bonjournito To clarify, the income limit only applies to income made as a result of using SOLIDWORKS, not including any other sources of income. However, I don't have any insight as to how that income is monitored. I wouldn't expect that files sizes are monitored to predict income, though.

Just to be clear, this '"Maker" version is "cloud" based and what ever computer you might lo use access this "Maker" version must meet the minimum requirements of 2024 Solidworks such as a CPU ,Ram and a video processor . In other words the computers you intend to do your projects on must be relatively new or the program will not run. From what I have found, the HP VICTUS gaming laptop should work and is the least costly at $634.59 AMAZON price. I How long that laptop meet the requirement, is another story I suspect that due to updates, that laptop could be obsoleted when the 2025 version of "Maker" is released.

I used SolidWorks for a long time. This platform is one big misunderstanding. It's OK if you only want to use design or group work, but anything more than that causes problems. To start processing on the machine, you have to switch to another program, which not only takes a long time to start, but also hangs while working. The need to work with an Internet connection is another problem. A license for private individuals for non-commercial use is not appropriate here at all. Normal SolidWorks works much better, as it has everything in it, is lighter and easier. Another problem is installing and uninstalling programs. Installation takes several dozen minutes and almost the same amount of time to uninstall from the SSD! It's a joke that they extend such operations on purpose. Normal SolidWorks installs much faster (even if the data is already downloaded in 3DEXPERIENCE). I expected much more from this company and I regret the money I spent on it.

can i use solidworks on both my workshop computer and laptop (ofc not at the same time) with a makers licence?

Great question! This shouldn't be a problem, as the Maker version (and all 3DEXPERIENCE versions) use your login credentials to authenticate the license.

Solidworks will screw you up faster than you think. Up until now, they are actively preparing images of their software to download, that you can only use with a valid license, but never should with the included one. As you are using the included license, all your data is transmitted to a specialized legal department to get some money from you, instead of having to fight a legal battle with them. I have myself experienced this behavour of that company, as i was younger. I would never ever use one of their programms even If they were free, as i know of what this company is capable of. Be careful..
