Hi. How does the Trutone cover hold up after yesrs? Did it chip or crack? I'm concerned about its durability but I cannot afford the premium option they offer. Thanks!

The more modern compounds they use for TruTone (I’d say on copies bought in 2018 or newer) are more durable than the old stuff which had problems with flaking apart under heavy use. I think TruTone is more durable than bonded leather now. Composite materials probably won’t last across a generation like your premium leathers will - but I’ve seen these TruTone covers do quite well even 5-10 years in. I don’t own the premium version of this study bible either - but one thing to consider before buying it (assuming you come across the opportunity) is the paper opacity. I do not love the opacity of the standard editions of the ESV Study Bible, so I would avoid the premium as well unless its paper quality is significantly better.

Totally agree with you regarding keeping the bible all black. Just bought mine and will remove the writing on the spine with a cotton bud and a little surgical spirit

Great review. I'm interested in getting this Bible, but I was just wondering if it is the true 2016 text edition? If you get a chance, could you check Gen 3:16b? The updated 2016 version should say: "Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you." I only ask because I saw a review for a different ESV Bible that, while the Bible was published in 2018 and claimed to be the 2016 edition, the text was actually an earlier edition.

Confirmed. The copy in this review reads "Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you." I don't know if Crossway is still selling this exact edition as their Large Print Thinline, but 100% the copy I have checks out as an updated 2016.

I am gonna expand on that. If you knew his name was Carlos Mant'hena Thrantos You would be seeking him out. That is why there is no name. You are not suppose to know their name. That is why it does not say Jesus or Samuel or Paul or anything. This persons name is not to be blared all over the place. The people will know this person. Its just NOT in the Bible. I found this and a few other text people confusing this.

Ugh. We have rules for people reading the books. You cant change the wording. This is NOT JESUS. This is someone new who you and no one else is NOT to know their name YET. You can assume anyone. But you cant just say its someone who is already identified. So in other words. No. This is not David's blood line. This is a NEW keyword here. NEW blood line. That will be the Messiah of the Gentile nations. NOT Israel.--> NOT ISRAEL. <-- This is NOT Jesus. Someone new. SOMEONE NEW. You get to read about him but not his name.

The only works that are considered as the best commentary works are - a.t.lincoln on ephesians, richard bauckham, mounce, donald hagner, ralph martin, & Lane's... Highly critical & need to assess was the commentary on Romans by Dunn...
